Oakland, Calif. -- The Oakland Athletics obtained Kansas City outfielder David DeJesus Wednesday for pitchers Vin Mazzaro and Justin Marks, the teams said.
DeJesus, a longtime fixture in the Royals' outfield, was limited to 91 games this year after tearing a ligament in his right thumb while trying to make a leaping catch against the outfield wall at Yankee Stadium in late July.
DeJesus has played eight seasons with Kansas City after being drafted in the fourth round of the 2000 MLB draft. He batted .318 with five home runs and 37 runs batted in last season and has logged 241 consecutive errorless games.
DeJesus has 61 homers, 390 RBI and a .289 average for his career.

New York -- The Kansas City Royals announced Friday center fielder David DeJesus would be lost for the rest of the season due to a ligament tear in his right thumb.
DeJesus suffered the injury Thursday while trying to make a catch against the wall of a long drive off the bat of New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter.
The ball eluded DeJesus and Jeter turned it into the second inside-the-park home run of his career.
The Royals originally announced DeJesus had suffered only a sprained and that X-rays were negative. Further examination revealed he would require surgery to repair the damage.
DeJesus ended his season with a .318 batting average and 37 RBI in 91 games.
