Copperfield accuser drops lawsuit

Seattle -- David Copperfield's lawyers say the Washington state woman who accused the illusionist of sexually assaulting her has dropped her civil lawsuit.

Lacey Carroll claimed in the suit Copperfield raped her on his private Caribbean island in 2007. A criminal investigation into her allegation ended this year with no charges filed.

David Copperfield's accuser arrested

Seattle -- The Washington state woman who claimed she was raped by illusionist David Copperfield has been arrested on prostitution charges, police said.

The U.S. Attorney's Office in Seattle recently announced it would not pursue a criminal case against Copperfield after Lacey L. Carroll, a 23-year-old waitress and aspiring model, said the entertainer sexually assaulted her in the Bahamas in 2007.

The Bellevue (Wash.) City Prosecutor's Office charged Carroll Tuesday with prostitution and filing a false report after she allegedly tried to get a man to pay $2,000 for sex last month, and then accused him of abusing her when he turned her down, The Seattle Times reported Wednesday.

Stay granted in Copperfield sex lawsuit

Seattle -- A U.S. District judge has granted David Copperfield's request for a six-month stay in the civil lawsuit filed by a woman who claims the magician raped her.

The Seattle Times reported Tuesday's legal decision and said a status hearing on the case was set for March.

An unidentified former Miss Washington USA contestant is suing Copperfield for unspecified damages, alleging the illusionist raped her on his private island in the Bahamas in 2007.

The Times said Copperfield petitioned the judge overseeing the lawsuit to issue a stay so the U.S. Attorney's Office in Seattle could wrap up its criminal investigation into the matter. Prosecutors told the newspaper the investigation is nearly done.

The entertainer has denied any wrongdoing.

Copperfield lawyers call plaintiff a liar

Seattle -- David Copperfield's lawyers say the Washington woman who has accused the illusionist of sexually assaulting her in 2007 is a habitual liar.

The 22-year-old, unidentified fashion model recently filed a federal lawsuit against Copperfield, claiming he lured her to a secluded island in the Bahamas, repeatedly assaulted her and threatened to kill her. She is seeking unspecified damages for the infliction of emotional distress, false misrepresentation and false imprisonment, The Seattle Times said.

However, Angelo Calfo and Patty Eakes at Yarmuth, Wilsdon, Calfo PLLC, the law firm that represents Copperfield, categorized the lawsuit as a "false" claim intended to earn money for the woman who filed it.
