Clarke increases lead at Scottish Open

Luss, Scotland -- Darren Clarke increased his tournament lead to three strokes Friday, halfway through the European Tour's Barclays Scottish Open.

Despite heavy rain conditions throughout the round, Clarke shot a 4-under-par 67 Friday and is at 10-under 132 after 36 holes.

He is three strokes ahead of Edoardo Molinari, who had a 69 in his second round. Bradley Dredge and Peter Hedblom, who also each shot 69 Friday, are tied for third at 6-under. Francesco Molinari, also with a second-round 69, is in fifth at 5-under.

Clarke, whose first-round lead was one stroke, had five birdies and one bogey Friday. He played the back nine first and three-putted from 20 feet on No. 11 for his only bogey of the first two days.

Clarke is in the lead at Scottish Open

Luss, Scotland -- Darren Clarke's bogey-free, 6-under-par 65 Thursday was worth the first-round lead at the European Tour's Barclays Scottish Open.

Clarke had four birdies on the front side and two more on his second nine in building a 1-stroke lead over Damien McGrane, Edoardo Molinari and Graeme Storm. Another seven golfers, including John Daly, are tied for fifth at 4-under 67 at the Loch Lomond Golf Club.

Clarke opened with two pars and then had birdies on Nos. 3, 5, 7 and 9. The birdie at the ninth hole was set up with an approach shot that stopped 10 feet from the hole.

He posted back-to-back birdies at Nos. 13 and 14 -- dropping a 5-footer for a birdie at 14 -- to grab the outright lead.

Clarke, Hedblom co-leaders in Netherlands

Zanvoort, Netherlands -- Defending champion Darren Clarke shot 3-under-par 67 Friday to tie Peter Hedblom for the 36-hole lead at the KLM Open golf tournament at Zanvoort, Netherlands.

They supplanted first-round co-leaders Garry Orr and Paul McGinley. Their 36-hole
total at 8-under 132 leads five golfers -- Bradley Dredge (67), Kenneth Ferrie (67), Peter Lawrie (67), Wade Ormsby (67) and Oskar Henningson (66) -- by one stroke.

Clarke's round was dampened by bogeys at the first, fifth and ninth holes.
Hedblom blew a chance to be the sole leader after bogeying the final two holes.

"It's one of my favorite venues," Clarke said about the Kennemer course at Zanvoort. "It sets up well for me and it's always nice to come back to a place where you've done well."
