Balloon artist creates fairy tale forest

Dallas -- A Texas artist said the fairy tale forest display he created for the World Balloon Convention at a Dallas hotel is designed to "shatter" perceptions.

Jim Skistimas, 62, of Flower Mound, said his display at this week's convention at the Sheraton Dallas Hotel is designed to show people how balloon creations can be works of art, The Dallas Morning News reported Friday.

"Eighty or 90 percent of the people out there have a preconceived knowledge of what balloons are," Skistimas said. "Our intention is to shatter the public's perception."

The display, which will be taken down Sunday, includes trees, butterflies, grass, flowers, acorns and mushrooms created from thousands of balloons.
