Dallas -- Veteran Jon Kitna says he's ready to step up from backup to starting quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys with Tony Romo out 6 to 8 weeks.
Romo suffered a broken collarbone in the second quarter of a 41-35 loss to the New York Giants Monday night. Kitna came in and completed 16-of-33 passes for 187 yards and two scores in his first regular-season action in more than two years.
"This isn't my first rodeo and we're going to be just fine," the 38-year-old signal-caller, now in his 14th NFL season, was quoted as saying on the team's Web site.
The Cowboys said Romo underwent a CT scan Tuesday that confirmed a fractured left clavicle. Team officials said the injury will not require surgery.

San Antonio -- Dallas Cowboys tight end John Phillips will have knee surgery and miss the entire season, the team said Monday.
Phillips tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during Sunday's NFL Hall of Fame Game in Canton, Ohio, in which the Cowboys defeated the Cincinnati Bengals 16-7.
The second-year pro, who was vying against Martellus Bennett for the backup tight end spot behind Jason Witten, hauled down four passes for 60 yards before leaving the game in the second quarter.
Dallas took Phillips, 23, in the sixth round of the 2009 draft out of Virginia. He caught seven passes for 62 yards in 16 games last year as a rookie.

San Antonio -- An incident in which Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant refused to submit to rookie hazing is no big deal, Coach Wade Phillips said Monday.
Bryant's refusal Sunday to carry fellow receiver Roy Williams' shoulder pads as part of rookie initiation tradition at the Cowboys' training camp in San Antonio generated a media controversy. Phillips, however, called it a "non-issue," the Fort Worth (Texas) Star-Telegram reported.
"It's not a problem with either of them or our football team," Phillips told the newspaper. "I'd like to cut it off now and say nobody's going to talk about it, but that's not the case with the Dallas Cowboys."

New York -- The NFL Competition Committee said a football hitting the scoreboard over the Dallas Cowboys' new field will result in an immediate stoppage of the play.
Dallas had its first game at the $1.15 billon Cowboys Stadium last week. Tennessee punter A.J. Trapasso hit a scoreboard that is suspended over the playing surface with a kick, leading the NFL to ask for a ruling on the situation.
A release Friday said that any ball that hits the video board, supporting wires, sky cam or other object will be declared dead and the down replayed from the previous spot.
Additionally, coaches will have the opportunity to challenge if they believe such interference occurred and was missed. The NFL's replay official can also call for a booth review.
