Crude oil prices settle at $78

New York -- Crude oil prices settled on the New York Mercantile Exchange after concern over a storm in the Gulf of Mexico abated.

Crude oil prices had jumped 3.1 percent Friday on the fear the storm could disrupt supplies. After hitting a peak of $79 per barrel, however, fears and prices eased, the price August delivery crude settling at $78 early Monday.

Heating oil prices lost 0.0268 cents from a prior settlement to $2.0854 per gallon. Reformulated gasoline blendstock prices lost 0.0321 cents to $2.1357 per gallon.

Henry Hub natural gas settled fell 0.106 cents $4.755 per million British thermal units.

Crude up, but holds under $77

New York -- Crude oil prices held steady above $76 per barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange Friday.

July delivery crude oil prices added 27 cents to $76.78 per barrel. Heating oil prices for July delivery added 0.0076 cents to $2.0648 per gallon. Reformulated gasoline blendstock prices added 0.0212 cents to $2.1147 per gallon. Henry Hub natural gas prices gained 0.057 cents to $4.805 per million British thermal units.

At the pump, the national average price for unleaded regular gasoline rose to $2.755 per gallon from Thursday's $2.753, AAA said.

Crude oil hovers near $76

New York -- Crude oil prices dropped from an overnight high to just above $76 per barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange Thursday.

The U.S. Energy Information Administration said Wednesday that crude oil inventories rose by 2 million barrels in the week ending June 18, adding to pressure on oil trading that was initially pushed from its 2010 peak by the escalating debt crisis in Europe.

Oil prices ease back slightly

New York -- Crude oil prices held above $77 per barrel overnight on the New York Mercantile Exchange after a New Orleans judge lifted an offshore drilling moratorium.

U.S. District Judge Martin Feldman blocked a six-month White House ban on deep-water drilling, calling the order a "blanket, generic, indeed punitive, moratorium," The New York Times reported.

Interior Secretary Ken Salazar then vowed to issue a new order for the industry "that eliminates any doubt that a moratorium is needed, appropriate and within our authorities."

Crude oil prices slip

New York -- Crude oil prices finished near $77 per barrel Tuesday on the New York Mercantile Exchange with the dollar index up 0.24 percent and the euro dropping.

The euro dropped to $1.2261 Tuesday from Monday's $1.2318, reflecting continued uncertainty over government debt in Europe.

July delivery crude oil prices eased back to $77.20 per barrel, down 62 cents.
Heating oil prices for July delivery lost 0.0259 cents from a prior settlement to $2.12 per gallon. Reformulated gasoline blendstock prices dropped 0.0088 cents to $2.134 per gallon. Henry Hub natural gas prices lost 0.085 cents to $4.788 per million British thermal units.

Crude oil prices slip overnight

New York -- Crude oil prices settled near $77.50 per barrel Tuesday on the New York Mercantile Exchange with the dollar index up 0.05 percent and the euro dropping.

The euro dropped to $1.229 Tuesday morning from Monday's $1.2318, reflecting continued uncertainty over government debt in Europe.

July delivery crude oil prices eased back to $77.55 per barrel overnight, down 27 cents. Heating oil prices for July delivery lost 0.0078 cents from a prior settlement to $2.1381 per gallon. Reformulated gasoline blendstock prices added 0.0061 cents to $2.1489 per gallon. Henry Hub natural gas prices lost 0.038 cents to $4.835 per million British thermal units.

Oil prices rise on China's move

New York -- Crude oil prices jumped to nearly $79 per barrel Monday on the New York Mercantile Exchange after China said it would allow some flexibility in the renminbi.

The renminbi (or yuan) appreciated to the highest level against the dollar in 20 months after Saturday's announcement, which gives a boost to oil exporters to China.

July delivery crude oil prices added $1.62 to reach $78.78 per barrel. Heating oil prices for July delivery gained 0.0389 cents to $2.1678 per gallon.

Reformulated gasoline blendstock prices rose 0.0344 cents to $2.182 per gallon. Henry Hub natural gas prices rose 0.15 cents to $5.147 per million British thermal units.

Crude oil prices rise Friday

New York -- Crude oil prices rose above $77 per barrel Friday on the New York Mercantile Exchange as the dollar index dropped 0.13 percent.

July delivery crude oil prices rose 53 cents from a prior settlement to $77.32 per barrel.

Heating oil prices for July delivery lost 0.0146 cents to $2.1328 per gallon. Reformulated gasoline blendstock prices shed 0.0067 cents to $2.1573 per gallon. Henry Hub natural gas prices dropped 0.137 cents to $5.025 per million British thermal units.

At the pump, the national average price for unleaded regular gasoline rose to $2.719 per gallon from Thursday's $2.707, AAA said.

New York -- Crude oil prices settled at less than $77 per barrel Thursday on the New York Mercantile Exchange with the dollar index dropping 0.51 percent.

Equity markets closed higher in Europe, mixed in Asia and flat on Wall Street.

July delivery crude oil prices dropped $1.07 from a prior settlement to $76.60 per barrel.
Heating oil prices for July delivery added 0.0259 cents to $2.136 per gallon. Reformulated gasoline blendstock prices gained 0.0138 cents to $2.159 per gallon. Henry Hub natural gas prices added 0.149 cents to $5.127 per million British thermal units.

At the pump, the national average price for unleaded regular gasoline rose to $2.707 per gallon Thursday from Wednesday's $2.70, AAA said.

Crude oil prices settle near $77

New York -- Crude oil prices settled close to $77 per barrel Thursday on the New York Mercantile Exchange with equity markets higher in Europe and mixed in Asia.

July delivery crude oil prices dropped 46 cents from a prior settlement to $77.21 per barrel. Heating oil prices for July delivery added 0.0234 cents to $2.1335 per gallon. Reformulated gasoline blendstock prices gained 0.0114 cents to $2.1566 per gallon. Henry Hub natural gas prices added 0.125 cents to $5.103 per million British thermal units.

At the pump, the national average price for unleaded regular gasoline rose to $2.707 per gallon Thursday from Wednesday's $2.70, AAA said.
