Guadalajara, Mexico -- Cristie Kerr, who has been in a battle for the No. 1 world ranking this year, took a three-shot lead Thursday after one round of the Lorena Ochoa Invitational.
Kerr fired a course-record 64 at the Guadalajara Country Club, breaking the old mark of 65 first set by Brittany Lang in 2008. Stacy Lewis was alone in second place with a 67.
Kerr went into the tournament ranked third in the world after having been briefly No. 1 this year. Current No. 1 Jiyai Shin is not playing this week while No. 2 Yani Tseng shot a 76 to open the tournament.
Na Yeon Choi, ranked fourth in the world, had a 68 and shared third place with Katherine Hull, Paula Creamer and Ai Miyazato.

Daytona Beach, Fla. -- Jiyai Shin once again passed Cristie Kerr and reclaimed the No. 1 position Monday in the world women's golf rankings.
Shin tied for fourth at the LPGA Hana Bank Championship in South Korea and, with Kerr three strokes back and tied for 12th, was able to move to the top spot. Kerr had taken over the No. 1 position from Ai Miyazato last week.
The leading players are still bunched, however, and additional switches are likely as the season winds down. Eight players in the Top 10 changed places this week.
Shin has a rankings point average of 10.86 while Kerr is at 10.64. Suzann Pettersen (10.52) moved into the No. 3 spot and Miyazato (10.50) is fourth.

Daytona Beach, Fla. -- Cristie Kerr returned to the No. 1 spot in the world women's golf rankings, with Jiyai Shin moving up to second and Ai Miyazato dropping to third.
Kerr, who finished eighth at last week's LPGA event in Malaysia, was No. 1 for one week in August before Miyazato took over. She was also ranked on top for three weeks in June and July.
While she's back at No. 1 as of Monday, she owns just a narrow lead for the top spot. Kerr has a ratings point average of 10.88, while Shin is at 10.76 and Miyazato's average is 10.63.
One of those three golfers -- Shin and Miyazato for 10 weeks each and Kerr for five -- has been ranked No. 1 since Lorena Ochoa retired this spring.

Daytona beach -- Cristie Kerr edged closer to top-ranked Ai Miyazato in the women's world golf rankings released Monday.
Miyazato has been atop the rankings for the last nine weeks -- the longest stretch for one player at No. 1 since Lorena Ochoa retired in April -- but is barely ahead of Kerr, whom Miyazato replaced at No. 1 on Aug. 23. Miyazato has a 10.9 average rating compared to Kerr's 10.81.
Kerr finished in a tie for fifth at the LPGA's CVS/pharmacy in Danville, Calif. But she was one of only two Top 10 players who entered the event. The other was Paula Creamer, whose tie for 25th contributed to her drop from 10th to 11th in the rankings.

Kerr shot her second straight round of 5-under 67, finishing 54 holes at 17-under-par 199 -- a new tournament record low, besting Lorena Ochoa's old mark of 200, which was set last year.
After sharing the second-round lead with Na Yeon Choi and Mika Miyazato, Kerr got hot on the front nine with six birdies. She could have posted a 4-stroke advantage but stumbled to a bogey on the final hole.

Oakmont, Pa. -- Brittany Lang and Cristie Kerr shared the clubhouse lead Friday when thunderstorms forced a suspension of play in the second round of the U.S. Women's Open.
Lang and Kerr had completed 36 holes over the difficult Oakmont Country Club course at 1-over 143. Lang, the first-round leader, fired a 74 and Kerr, the runaway winner last month at the LPGA Championship, shot a 71.
The only player in front of Lang and Kerr on the leader board was Sophie Gustafson, but she faced a long day of golf Saturday when the second round was scheduled to begin at 7:30 a.m. EDT.
Gustafson was even par for the tournament through one hole of the second round. Only two sub-par rounds have been shot thus far in the most significant event in women's golf.
