Brewers sign Hart to 3-year extension

Milwaukee -- Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Corey Hart has signed a 3-year contract extension, the team said Monday.

Hart will be paid $26.5 million through the 2013 season -- $6.5 million in 2011, $9 million in 2012 and $10 million in the last year of the deal - the Brewers' official Web site reported.

The deal includes a $1 million signing bonus and eliminates Hart's final year of arbitration eligibility.

Hart is having his best year as a pro, batting .288 with 23 homers and 72 RBI in 92 games. He was named to the all-star team this summer, his second such selection.

MLB: Milwaukee 6, Pittsburgh 5

Milwaukee -- Corey Hart delivered a game-winning, two-run homer in the ninth inning Sunday to boost the Milwaukee Brewers to a 6-5 decision over Pittsburgh.

Jim Edmonds began the Brewers' winning rally with a ground-rule double off Octavio Dotel (2-2), and two batters later Hart blasted a pitch for his 21st homer of the season, allowing Milwaukee to sweep a three-game series from the Pirates going into the All-Star break.

The game-winner came after Pittsburgh took a 5-4 lead in the top of the ninth when Andrew McCutchen's sacrifice fly scored Ronny Cedeno.

Ryan Braun was 2-for-3 with a homer and two runs scored for Milwaukee.

The Brewers sport a 40-49 record entering the break.

MLB: Milwaukee 7, Los Angeles Angels 1

Anaheim, Calif. -- Corey Hart had three RBI and Prince Fielder hit a two-run homer Tuesday to help lead the Milwaukee Brewers past the Los Angeles Angels 7-1.

Hart's bases-loaded double in the second inning was the big blow in a four-run outburst that put the Brewers on top 6-0.

Dave Bush (2-5) picked up his first win since April 20 and ended a personal five-game losing streak. Bush held the Angels to one run on seven hits over 7 1/3 innings.

Maicer Izturis drove in the lone Los Angeles run with a double in the eighth inning.

Ervin Santana (6-5) lasted five innings, giving up six runs on 10 hits and striking out six.

Milwaukee outhit the Halos 12-7.

MLB: Chicago Cubs 13, Milwaukee 7

Chicago, Sept. 16: Derrek Lee and Geovany Soto had three RBI apiece Tuesday to lead the surging Chicago Cubs to a 13-7 win over the visiting Milwaukee Brewers.

The Cubs racked up five runs in the sixth inning to take control en route to their seventh win in eight games.

With the score tied 5-5, Milwaukee's bullpen fell apart with two hit batters and a two-run single by Soto.

Soto led off the fifth inning with his 11th home run of the season. Lee stroked a two-run double in the fourth.

Chicago added two more runs in the second, one of which strolled home from third when Chris Smith plunked Milton Bradley with the bases loaded.

MLB: Milwaukee 5, Cincinnati 1

Cincinnati, July 19: Craig Counsell and J.J. Hardy hit solo homers Saturday, leading the Milwaukee Brewers to a rain-delayed 5-1 win over the Cincinnati Reds.

Rainfall halted the contest with Milwaukee leading 4-1 after seven innings.

Corey Hart had two hits and one RBI, Frank Catalanotto had one RBI and a run scored on a fourth-inning error by losing pitcher Aaron Harang, while Counsell and Mike Cameron also had two hits for the Brewers, who have won two of three following the All-Star break.

Cincinnati scored on Casey McGehee's fifth-inning throwing error. Adam Rosales and Willy Taveras had two hits each for the Reds, who have lost three of four.

MLB: Milwaukee 7, Chicago White Sox 2

Milwaukee, June 12: Corey Hart had a triple, a double and three RBI Friday in the Milwaukee Brewers' 7-2 inter-league win over the Chicago White Sox.

Casey McGehee had two hits and two RBI and Bill Hall had two hits, one RBI and one run scored for the Brewers, who won for the first time in their last five games.

Milwaukee starter Jeff Suppan (5-4) yielded two runs on nine hits with five strikeouts in 6 2/3 innings to get the victory. He also had two hits and drove in a run.

A.J. Pierzynski had two hits, one RBI and one run scored, while Chris Getz drove in a run and Scott Podsednik collected three hits for the White Sox, who have lost nine of their last 13 games.

MLB: Milwaukee 3, Cincinnati 2

Milwaukee -- Corey Hart produced the go-ahead run in the seventh with a homer Friday, lifting the Milwaukee Brewers to a 3-2 win over Cincinnati.

The Brewers managed only three hits in the game, but two of them were home runs.

Milwaukee won for just the second time in seven outings.

Prince Fielder hit a two-run homer for the Brewers in the first inning and Cincinnati's Ramon Hernandez tied it with a two-run shot in the fourth.

Hart then delivered the deciding run with one out in the seventh by blasting a 1-0 pitch from Johnny Cueto (4-3).

Braden Looper (5-3) gave up two runs over seven innings to get the win and Trevor Hoffman picked up his 12th save.
