MLB: Colorado 5, Washington 4

Washington, Aug. 19: Solo homers by Clint Barmes and Carlos Gonzalez Wednesday led the Colorado Rockies to a 5-4 win over Washington.

Barmes and Gonzalez each had two hits. The homer by Gonzalez, his eighth, gave Colorado a 5-3 advantage leading off the top of the eighth.

Troy Tulowitzki hit a two-run first-inning double. Dexter Fowler had one RBI, while winning pitcher Jason Marquis added one hit for the Rockies, who have split their last four games.

Marquis (14-8) surrendered three runs and nine hits in six innings.

Closer Huston Street earned his 31st save despite giving up a solo homer to Josh Bard in the ninth.

MLB: Washington 8, Milwaukee 3

Milwaukee, July 28: Cristian Guzman hit a three-run homer, and Nyjer Morgan homered and had three RBI Tuesday in Washington's 8-3 win over Milwaukee.

Adam Dunn added his 26th home run of the season.

Collin Balester (1-1), making his second start of the season, earned the win after giving up two runs on five hits in six innings for the Nationals, who have won six of their last eight games.

J.J. Hardy had three hits and an RBI for the Brewers, who have lost seven of their last nine games. Ryan Braun hit his 21st homer and scored twice in the loss.

Milwaukee relief pitcher Carlos Villanueva (2-8) started and lost after he allowed five runs on eight hits in four innings.

MLB: St. Louis 4, Washington 1

Washington, July 24: Adam Wainwright held Washington to a lone run despite giving up eight hits Thursday and St. Louis defeated the Nationals 4-1 in a game shortened by rain.

The start of the contest was delayed by thunderstorms and the game was called in the seventh inning, just before midnight, after Skip Schumaker led off the top of the seventh by grounding out to second.

Wainwright (11-6) went the distance, striking out seven. He stopped Washington's two-game winning streak and helped bring the Cardinals their first win in four tries.

St. Louis boosted its lead in the National League Central to 1 ½ games over Houston and the Chicago Cubs.
