MLB: San Francisco 3, Atlanta 2

Atlanta -- Cody Ross drove in the go-ahead run Monday and the San Francisco Giants won their National League Division Series with a 3-2 victory over Atlanta.

Ross drove in two runs and scored on -- and his seventh-inning single drove in Buster Posey to cap a two-run rally that saw the Giants erase a 2-1 deficit and go on to defeat the Braves, taking the series 3-games-to-1 and advancing to the NL Championship Series for the first time since 2002.

Ross socked a solo homer in the sixth inning off Braves starter Derek Lowe (0-2) to forge a 1-1 tie.

Posey had two hits and an RBI to back Madison Bumgarner (1-0), who held NL wild-card winner Atlanta to two runs on six hits over six frames. Bumgarner walked one and struck out five.

MLB: Florida 3, Philadelphia 0 (2nd game)

Miami, Sept. 22: Anibal Sanchez pitched eight shutout innings and Dan Uggla and Cody Ross hit solo home runs Tuesday to give the Florida Marlins a 3-0 win over Philadelphia.

MIAMI, Sept. 22 (UPI) -- Anibal Sanchez pitched eight shutout innings and Dan Uggla and Cody Ross hit solo home runs Tuesday to give the Florida Marlins a 3-0 win over Philadelphia.

The win came in the second game of a doubleheader after Philadelphia won the first game 9-3.

Sanchez (3-7) allowed just two hits -- both to Chase Utley -- walked two and struck out seven for his first win in six starts. Leo Nunez got his 24th save with a perfect ninth.

Hanley Ramirez added two hits, including an RBI double.

MLB: Florida 5, St. Louis 2

St. Louis -- Cody Ross had three hits and two RBI Wednesday, sparking Florida's 5-2 win over the St. Louis Cardinals.

Ross hit RBI singles in the top of the first and eighth innings, respectively.

Dan Uggla, John Baker and Jorge Cantu each drove in a run for the Marlins, who won twice in the three-game series to maintain their faint National League wild card hopes.

Winner Josh Johnson (15-4) surrendered a run and nine hits in six innings with no walks and five strikeouts. Leo Nunez earned his 22nd save by retiring the last two batters in the bottom of the ninth.

Albert Pujols and Julio Lugo drove in runs for the slumping Cardinals, who have lost five of six.

MLB: Florida 6, New York Mets 3

New York -- Home runs by Cody Ross and Dan Uggla helped stake Florida to a five-run lead Wednesday and the Marlins held on to defeat the New York Mets 6-3.

The win kept the Marlins within six games of division-leading Philadelphia in the National League East.

Ross hit a three-run homer during a four-run first inning and Uggla added a solo shot in the sixth.

Rocky Nolasco (11-8), who took a shutout into the seventh inning, wound up surrendering three runs on four hits in 6 1/3 innings before Renyel Pinto was called on to get the Marlins out of trouble.

New York could not manage a hit over the final two innings and Leo Nunez worked the ninth for his 20th save.

MLB: San Diego 9, Florida 5

Miami, Aug. 28: Kyle Blanks and three other San Diego players had two RBI each Friday in the Padres' 9-5 win over the Florida Marlins.

Blanks's two-run homer, his only hit, came during a six-run second.

David Eckstein had three hits and two RBI.

Everth Cabrera and Will Venable had two hits and two RBI apiece.

Chase Headley had three hits and one RBI for the Padres, who have won three of four.

The winner was starter Kevin Correia (9-10).

Florida's Wes Helms had two hits and two RBI.

Chris Coghlan had three hits and one RBI.

Cody Ross had two hits and one RBI.

John Baker drove in a run, and Hanley Ramirez had two hits for the Marlins, who have lost seven of 11.

MLB: Florida 5, Chicago Cubs 2

Miami, July 31: John Baker singled in the go-ahead run as part of a three-run eighth inning Friday, lifting the Florida Marlins to a 5-2 win over the Chicago Cubs.

The Cubs, who began the evening with a half-game lead over St. Louis in the National League Central, had won their previous two games.

Chicago rallied from a 2-0 deficit in the seventh when Jake Fox hit a two-run homer but the Marlins came back in the eighth to break open the contest.

Carlos Marmol (2-2), the fourth Chicago pitcher, walked Jorge Cantu and Dan Uggla to start the eighth. Cantu was out at third on a fielder's choice grounder by Jeremy Hermida and Cody Ross flew out to left, giving the Cubs a good chance to escape the trouble.

MLB: Florida 8, Arizona 1

Phoenix, July 12: Cody Ross drove in three runs with a pair of doubles, and Jeremy Hermida belted a two-run home run for the Florida Marlins Sunday in an 8-1 rout of Arizona.

Hanley Ramirez added an RBI and scored twice for the Marlins.

Josh Johnson (8-2) was the winner, allowing a run and seven hits in 6 2/3 innings.

Johnson has won five of his last six decisions.

Stephen Drew singled in the Diamondbacks' run.

Losing pitcher Doug Davis (4-9) surrendered five runs and seven hits in four innings.

MLB: Florida 14, Arizona 7

Phoenix, July 10: Brett Carroll's three-run homer was the centerpiece of a 10-run eighth inning Thursday that gave the Florida Marlins a 14-7 win over Arizona.

The Diamondbacks had won a season-best five straight games and took a 7-0 lead through five innings. Florida, however, brought an emphatic end to the Arizona run of success by scoring 14 times in the course of three innings.

The Marlins sent 14 men to the plate in the eighth and came up with eight hits while taking advantage of an error and a passed ball. The big inning began with Arizona still holding a 7-4 lead but the Marlins quickly loaded the bases against Juan Gutierrez.

MLB: San Francisco 5, Florida 4

San Francisco, July 7: Pablo Sandoval hit his first career grand slam in the fifth inning Monday and the San Francisco Giants held on to beat Florida 5-4.

Marlins starter Sean West (3-3) allowed a leadoff double in the fifth to Juan Uribe and then walked Matt Cain and Aaron Rowand. After inducing Andres Torres to fly out, West served up the grand slam to Sandoval.

San Francisco starter Matt Cain (10-2) got the win, going 6 2/3 innings and allowing just two runs on five hits with five strikeouts and two walks.

Jeremy Affeldt pitched 1 1/3 shutout innings and Brian Wilson got his 22nd save despite giving up two runs on three hits in the ninth.

MLB: Florida 7, Toronto 3

Toronto, June 12: Cody Ross hit a grand slam in a five-run eighth inning Friday to boost the Florida Marlins to a 7-3 inter-league win over the Toronto Blue Jays.

Ross's ninth homer this season -- and only hit of the game -- broke a 2-2 tie with no outs in the top of the eighth.

Hanley Ramirez had three hits and three RBI. Ross Gload had a run and three hits, while Jeremy Hermida added a run and two hits for the Marlins, who stopped their two-game slide.

The winner was reliever Dan Meyer (1-0).

Aaron Hill led Toronto with two hits and one RBI. Alex Rios also had two hits for the Blue Jays, who have lost two straight after winning four of five.

Toronto lost starter Roy Halladay to a groin injury in the fourth.
