MLB: Cincinnati 6, St. Louis 1

St. Louis -- Travis Wood allowed only one unearned run and hit his first major league homer Saturday as the Cincinnati Reds downed St. Louis 6-1.

Wood (5-2) scattered five hits, struck out three and walked two, taking his fifth win in seven starts and dealing a key blow to the Cardinals, who fell eight games behind the National League Central-leading Reds with the loss.

Jonny Gomes gave Cincinnati an early lead with a two-run double in the first inning and Brandon Phillips made it 3-0 with an RBI single in the next frame, and the Reds went to post their seventh win in nine games.

MLB: Houston 3, Cincinnati 2

Houston, Sept. 27: Humberto Quintero hit a key solo homer Sunday, leading the Houston Astros to a 3-2 win over the Cincinnati Reds.

His only hit gave Houston a 3-0 lead with two outs in the bottom of the fourth and provided the eventual game-winning run because Cincinnati closed to 3-2 in the sixth.

Winner Wandy Rodriguez (14-11) surrendered two runs and nine hits in six innings with one walk and nine strikeouts.

Closer Jose Valverde earned his 25th save with a scoreless ninth.

Cincinnati's Jonny Gomes and Ramon Hernandez had two hit and one RBI each.

Six others had one hit for the Reds, who had beaten the Astros nine straight times.

The losing pitcher was starter Johnny Cueto (10-11).

MLB: Cincinnati 10, Pittsburgh 4

Pittsburgh, Sept. 22: Scott Rolen had three hits, three RBI and two runs scored Tuesday to lead the Cincinnati Reds to a 10-4 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates.

The Reds scored five runs in the fifth inning. Brandon Phillips drove in two runs and scored once and Joey Votto had three hits and scored three runs for the Reds.
Johnny Cueto (10-10) gave up two runs on nine hits in five innings for the win.
Zach Duke (10-15) took the loss after allowing five runs on nine hits in six innings.

Andrew McCutchen went 2-for-4 with a solo homer and two RBI, Ronny Cedeno, and Robinzon Diaz each had an RBI, and Lastings Milledge went 3-for-5 with two runs scored for Pittsburgh.

Cleveland, June 28: Homer Bailey escaped a shaky effort Saturday, yielding three runs and three hits in five innings, when the Cincinnati Reds beat Cleveland 7-3.

Bailey (1-0) got his first victory since Sept. 30, 2006, despite walking seven batters and throwing two wild pitches in five innings.

Jay Bruce had two RBI -- one on a second-inning solo homer. Jerry Hairston Jr. had three hits and one RBI.

Joey Votto and Chris Dickerson both had two hits and one RBI, while Laynce Nix had two runs and two hits for the Reds, who had lost five of six.
