Chris Young

MLB: Arizona 5, Los Angeles Dodgers 4

Phoenix -- Tony Abreu and Chris Young both went deep in the eighth inning Sunday, handing the Arizona Diamondbacks a comeback 5-4 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Both homers were two-run shots and Miguel Montero smacked two triples for the D-Backs, who won a series against the Dodgers for the first time since August 2009.

Sam Demel (2-1) got the victory even though he surrendered two runs in one inning of relief and Juan Gutierrez earned his 14th save.

Jonathan Broxton (5-6) blew the save and took the loss for the Dodgers, allowing Young's homer after George Sherrill had given up Abreu's shot earlier.

Chad Billingsley tied a career high with 13 strikeouts in his start for Los Angeles and was backed by a two-run homer from Rod Barajas.

MLB: Arizona 5, Chicago Cubs 2

Phoenix, Oct. 4 -- Chris Young's three-run homer Sunday led the Arizona Diamondbacks to a season-ending 5-2 win over the Chicago Cubs.

The homer, Young's 15th this season and his only hit in the game, gave Arizona a 5-0 lead with no outs in the top of the fourth.

Gerardo Parra had two hits and one RBI, while Stephen Drew hit an RBI single for the Diamondbacks, who finished last in the NL West with a record of 70-92.
The winner was starter Doug Davis (9-14).

Juan Gutierrez hurled a 1-2-3 ninth, earning his ninth save.

Sam Fuld had two of six hits, including a two-run first-inning homer, for the Cubs, who lost twice in the three-game series and finished second in the National League Central.

MLB: Arizona 4, Los Angeles Dodgers 3

Phoenix, Sept. 10: Ramon Troncoso made an error in the ninth Wednesday and then walked Mark Reynolds with the bases loaded to give Arizona a 4-3 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The unearned run in the ninth halted the Los Angeles winning streak at two games and allowed Colorado to creep within 2 1/2 games of the first-place Dodgers in the National League West.

Troncoso (4-3), usually called on in middle relief, was sent out in the ninth to try to get the game into extra innings. He put himself in instant trouble, however, when he threw wildly to first after fielding a grounder off the bat of Gerardo Parra.

MLB: Arizona 9, Pittsburgh 0

Phoenix, July 26: Max Scherzer and Blaine Boyer combined on a five-hit shutout Sunday to lead the Arizona Diamondbacks to a 9-0 rout of the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Scherzer (6-6) scattered the five hits over seven innings with no walks and eight strikeouts. Boyer retired the six batters he faced in relief.

Gerardo Parr had three hits -- one a two-run homer -- and four RBI. Mark Reynolds had two hits -- one a two-run third-inning homer, and Ryan Roberts and Chris Young had two hits and one RBI apiece. Stephen Drew had two hits, while Miguel Montero added one RBI for the Diamondbacks, who have won four of six.

Garrett Jones, Brandon Moss, Jack Wilson, Steve Pearce and Ryan Doumit all had one hit for the Pirates, who have lost four of six.

MLB: Arizona 8, Houston 1

Phoenix, June 13: Dan Haren threw a two-hitter Friday, Mark Reynolds drove in five runs and the Arizona Diamondbacks romped past Houston 8-1.

Haren (5-4) struck out seven and walked two in his second complete game of the season and the eighth of his career.

The only hits Haren allowed -- a home run by Carlos Lee and a single by Lance Berkman -- came back-to-back with two out in the fourth inning. Haren faced the minimum number of batters over the last five innings thanks to the help of two double plays.

Reynolds, meanwhile, doubled in two runs in the first and hit a three-run homer in the sixth. Arizona got solo home runs from Chris Young and Gerardo Parra.

MLB: Colorado 3, San Diego 0

Denver -- Jason Marquis and Huston Street combined on a six-hit shutout Friday, carrying the Houston Astros to a 3-0 blanking of San Diego.

Marquis (7-3) gave up all six hits and struck out six while throwing just 103 pitches over eight innings.

Jim Tracy, managing his first game for the Rockies, then made his first big decision on the job by calling on Street to finish off the game. Street needed nine pitches to work a perfect inning and grab his eighth save.

Tracy was named manager earlier in the day when the Rockies dismissed Clint Hurdle. Colorado had lost its previous three games.

Yorvit Torrealba had an RBI single in the second, producing the only earned run of the game.

MLB: Arizona 9, Los Angeles Dodgers 4

Phoenix -- Chris Young collected three hits and Conor Jackson drove in three runs to lead Arizona to a 9-4 win over Los Angeles Friday in Phoenix, Ariz.

Jon Garland (1-0) was effective in his Diamondbacks debut, going seven strong innings, allowing three runs on five hits and three walks, while Felipe Lopez went 2-for-4 with a walk, two RBI and two runs scored for Arizona.

Casey Blake blasted a two-run homer, while Manny Ramirez went 2-for-3 with a walk and an RBI for the losing Dodgers, who went to the bullpen early after starter James McDonald (0-1) lasted just 2 1/3 innings.
