NFL: Tennessee 29, New York Giants 10

East Rutherford, N.J. -- Chris Johnson racked up 125 rushing yards and scored a pair of touchdowns Sunday in the Tennessee Titans' 29-10 victory over the New York Giants.

Johnson was a workhorse Sunday, carrying the ball 32 times, and Vince Young went 10-of-16 passing for 118 yards to lead the Titans to a convincing road victory -- their 10th straight win against an NFC opponent.

Young found Kenny Britt for a pair of receptions and a score and Tennessee unleashed a ball-hawking defense, with interceptions from Sen'Derrick Marks and Jason McCourty playing a part in the victory.

Eli Manning was 34-of-48 passing for 386 yards and two interceptions for the Giants (1-2).

MLB: Houston 4, Philadelphia 2 (16 inn.)

Philadelphia -- An infield single by Chris Johnson in the 16th inning gave the Houston Astros a 4-2 win over Philadelphia Tuesday in a game that lasted 5 hours, 20 minutes.

The game ended on a groundout by pitcher Roy Oswalt, who was sent in to play left field for two innings after Ryan Howard was ejected, leaving the Phillies with no other position players.

Johnson had four hits in the game and Carlos Lee provided a two-run homer for the Astros.

Jeff Fulchino (1-0) picked up the win by pitching the final two innings. He walked three batters but did not give up a hit.

David Herndon (1-3) finished the game for Philadelphia and wound up with the loss. Herndon was one of eight pitchers to work for the Phillies. Houston sent seven pitchers to the mound.

MLB: Houston 11, Chicago Cubs 5

Houston -- Chris Johnson and Jason Castro each homered and drove in three runs Monday to lead the Houston Astros to an 11-5 win over the Chicago Cubs.

Johnson went 3-for-5 and scored twice, Castro collected a pair of hits and Carlos Lee added two hits and a pair of RBI as Houston pounded out 17 hits to take the first contest of a three-game set with the Cubs at Minute Maid Park.

Angel Sanchez chipped in with three hits, Jeff Keppinger scored three times and Hunter Pence added a two-run single for the victors.

Wandy Rodriguez (7-11) notched the win despite allowing five runs on eight hits over six innings.

COL BKB: Dayton 77, Illinois 71

Champaign. Ill. -- Chris Johnson fueled an early surge Wednesday that lifted Dayton to an upset 77-71 victory over Illinois in the quarterfinals of the NIT.

The Flyers opened a 23-9 advantage and held off the Fighting Illini, who became the fourth and final No. 1 seed to be eliminated from the tournament. Arizona State, Mississippi State and Virginia Tech were also given No. 1 seeds in the event.

Dayton will meet Mississippi next Tuesday in the semifinals, which will be played in New York. North Carolina and Rhode Island will be in the other semifinal.

The Flyers became the third team out of four to win a quarterfinal contest on the road.

COL BKB: Dayton 63, Illinois State 42

Daytona, Ohio -- Chris Johnson scored 13 points Wednesday to pace No. 3 seed Dayton to a 63-42 victory over Illinois State in a first-round NIT contest.

Chris Wright hauled down 11 rebounds and scored nine points as the Flyers (21-12) used a stifling defense to hold Illinois State to a paltry 33.3 first-half field goal shooting percentage, allowing Dayton to post a 30-19 halftime lead.

Osiris Eldridge led the sixth-seeded Redbirds (22-11) with 12 points despite shooting just 4-of-15 from the field, and collected five caroms in the loss.

With the win, Dayton advances to play No. 2 seed Cincinnati in the second round.

AFC tops NFC 41-34 in Pro Bowl

Miami -- A 2-yard touchdown run by the Tennessee Titans' Chris Johnson with 5:59 remaining Sunday was the winning score in a 41-34 AFC Pro Bowl victory over the NFC.

Johnson's run capped an 11-play 76-yard drive.

Houston's Matt Schaub passed for 189 yards and two touchdowns for the AFC and was named Most Valuable Player in the all-star contest in Miami.

Schaub tossed a 33-yard touchdown pass to Andre Carter of the Texans and a 23-yarder to Denver's Brandon Marshall, both in the opening quarter.

San Diego's Vincent Jackson hauled in seven passes for 122 yards and a score for the AFC.

NFL: Tennessee 40, St. Louis 7

Nashville-- Chris Johnson scored three times and Rob Bironas kicked four field goals Sunday, leading the Tennessee Titans in a 40-7 rout of the St. Louis Rams.

Johnson, a possible MVP contender, caught a 66-yard, first-quarter touchdown pass from Vince Young and rushed for 117 yards on 28 carries with two other scores.

Young and Kerry Collins combined for 286 passing yards with one touchdown apiece.

Vincent Fuller scored on a 45-yard interception return, while the defense totaled five interceptions for the Titans (6-7), who have won six of seven since losing their first six contests.

St. Louis scored its only points on an 11-yard, fourth-quarter pass from Keith Null to Randy McMichael.

NFL: Tennessee 41, Buffalo 17

Nashville -- Chris Johnson rushed for 132 yards with two touchdowns Sunday, leading the Tennessee Titans in a 41-17 thrashing of the Buffalo Bills.

Tennessee secured its third straight victory with a 24-point fourth quarter following a 17-17 tie at the end of the third.

Johnson added nine catches for 100 yards.
Vince Young completed 17-of-25 passes for 210 yards, one touchdown pass to Nate Washington late in the first, and one interception.

Rob Bironas kicked three field goals, while both Vincent Fuller and Rod Hood scored on fourth-quarter interceptions for the Titans (3-6).

Lee Evans led Buffalo with two first-half touchdown receptions, finishing with four catches for 50 yards.

NFL: Tennessee 34, San Francisco 27

San Francisco -- NFL rushing leader Chris Johnson ran for two touchdowns and Tennessee used a 17-point fourth quarter Sunday to down the San Francisco 49ers 34-27.

Johnson racked up 135 yards, including TD runs of 1 and 2 yards, in the second straight win for the Titans (2-6).

Courtland Finnegan intercepted a pass and ran 39 yards for a late touchdown and quarterback Vince Young ran 7 yards for a touchdown and completed 12-of-19 passes for 172 yards for the Titans.

Alex Smith threw 12- and 3-yard touchdown passes to Jason Hill and Frank Gore scored on a 3-yard run for San Francisco (3-5.)

Gore gained 83 yards on 15 carries and caught seven passes for 75 yards and Vernon Davis had 10 receptions for 102 yards.

Chris Johnson named top AFC player

New York -- Tennessee Titans running back Chris Johnson is the AFC Offensive Player of the Week after a franchise-record 228 yards against Jacksonville last Sunday.

The former East Carolina star carried 24 times with 52- and 89-yards touchdown runs in the Titans' 30-13 win, their first this season.

Teammate Maurice Jones-Drew had touchdown runs of 80 and 79 yards, making it the first time in NFL history that there were four rushing touchdowns of at least 50 yards in a single contest.

Johnson was joined in the AFC by Houston Texans linebacker Brian Cushing (defense) and Miami Dolphins kick returner Ted Ginn, Jr. (special teams).

NFL: Tennessee 30, Jacksonville 13

Nashville -- Chris Johnson gained a franchise-record 228 yards rushing and scored twice Sunday, leading the Tennessee Titans to a 30-13 win over Jacksonville.

The 2008 first-round draft pick out of East Carolina carried 24 times and scored both touchdowns in the second half, one on an 89-yard run.

Vince Young, making his first start this season, completed 15-of-18 passes for 125 yards with one touchdown and rushed for 30 yards on 12 carries. Rob Bironas kicked three field goals and Nate Washington made a touchdown catch for the previously winless Titans (1-6).

Maurice Jones-Drew led Jacksonville with a career-high 177 yards on just eight carries with two touchdowns.
