Jankovic defeated in China Open

Beijing -- Third-seeded Jelena Jankovic was defeated Monday in second-round action of the China Open in Beijing.

Jankovic had her serve broken eight times in 13 games in dropping a 6-4, 2-6, 2-6 decision to Bojana Jovanovski. Jovanovski only had two break-point situations to deal with in the last two sets in beating Jankovic for the first time in her career.

No. 13-seeded Nadia Petrova got past Alona Bondarenko 6-3, 7-5 in her second-round match and Maria Kirilenko advanced to the third round with a 6-2, 3-6, 6-2 win over Gisela Dulko.

Kim Do-hoon has 1-shot lead at China Open

Suzhou, China -- Kim Do-hoon shot a 3-under-par 69 Friday and led by one stroke halfway through the European Tour's China Open.

Kim, coming off a course-record 64 Thursday, is at 11-under 133 after 36 holes at the Suzhou Jinji Lake Golf Club. Thongchai Jaidee, who matched Kim's first-round 64, is tied with Jamie Donaldson and Y.E. Yang for second at 10-under. Mikko Ilonen and Pablo Larrazabal are tied at 9-under 135 and in fifth place.

Yang had one of the best rounds of the day with a 66 that featured consecutive birdies from Nos. 11-14.Jaidee was bogey-free Thursday but had two against four birdies in the second round for a 70 while Donaldson's 68 featured six birdies and two bogeys.

Cilic stuns Nadal in Beijing

Beijing -- Marin Cilic stunned top-seeded Rafael Nadal Saturday, needing only 90 minutes to earn a 6-1, 6-3 semifinal victory at the China Open.

Cilic will meet Novak Djokovic in Sunday's title match.

It was the first meeting between Cilic and Nadal, a six-time major champion who began the year ranked No. 1 in the world. Nadal had won all of the eight previous matches he had played in this event.

Cilic will be trying for his third tournament victory of the year and the fourth of his career. His most recent title came in February in his native Croatia.

Djokovic, seeded third, coasted past Robin Soderling 6-3, 6-3 in the other semifinal match. Djokovic has defeated Cilic in all three of their meetings.

Kuznetsova, Radwanska reach China final

Beijing -- Sixth-seeded Svetlana Kuznetsova stormed into the championship match of the China Open Saturday with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Nadia Petrova.

Kuznetsova reached the finals in this tournament for the third time in five years, easily disposing of the player who had eliminated Serena Williams in the third round.

Agneiszka Radwanska also moved into the finals with a 6-4, 6-3 decision over Marion Bartoli.

Kuznetsova, the reigning French Open champion, will be playing her 20th career title match and her fourth in 2009. All three of her previous championship matches this year were against Dinara Safina, who was the No. 1 seed in this tournament and lost in the third round to Bartoli.

Safina, Serena win openers in China

Beijing -- Top seeds Dinara Safina of Russia and American Serena Williams posted straight-set victories Sunday in the first-round of the China Open in Beijing.

Safina, the No. 1 seed, eliminated Roberta Vinci of Italy 6-4, 6-4 and Williams, seeded second, defeated Kaia Kanepi of Estonia 7-5, 6-4.

Three seeded Russian players were among others who advanced. Fourth-seeded Elena Dementieva whipped Germany's Anna-Lena Groenefeld 6-4, 6-4, sixth-seeded Svetlana Kuznetsova outlasted China's Jie Zheng 7-6 (7-3), 7-5 and Vera Zvonareva, No. 7, routed Romania's Sorana Cirstea 6-2, 6-2.

Spaniard Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez upset fifth-seeded Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark, 6-7 (5-7), 7-6 (7-2), 6-0.
