Cubs trade Lilly, Theriot to Dodgers

Los Angeles -- The Chicago Cubs traded pitcher Ted Lilly and infielder Ryan Theriot to the Los Angeles Dodgers for infielder Blake DeWitt Saturday.

Also coming to the Cubs in the deal were right-handed minor league pitching prospects Kyle Smit and Brett Wallach.

Lilly, 34, was just 3-8 with a 3.69 earned run average in 18 starts this season, but has been victimized by poor run support. He went 47-34 with a 3.70 ERA in four seasons with the Cubs and after also spending time with Toronto, Oakland, the New York Yankees and Montreal.

He sports a career record of 106-92 with a 4.21 ERA in 298 games.

Cubs ship Milton Bradley to Seattle

chicago-- The Chicago Cubs finally traded volatile outfielder Milton Bradley Friday for Seattle Mariners' right hander Carlos Silva.

Bradley missed the final two weeks last season when he was suspended for making disparaging comments about the team and his shouting match with hitting Coach Von Joshua.

"(Now) you understand why they haven't won in 100 years," Bradley said before he was suspended by General Manager Jim Hendry. "My frustration and disappointment boiled over and I said and did certain things that I regret. In hindsight. I wish that I had handled certain things differently and I apologize for those things that did not work out for the better."

Chicago Cubs file for bankruptcy

Chicago, Oct. 12 -- The Chicago Cubs filed for bankruptcy Monday to speed up the team's sale from the Tribune Co. to the Ricketts family.

The Chicago Tribune reported the Cubs needed to join the Tribune Co. in Chapter 11 bankruptcy to ensure the company's obligations are met and the Cubs' assets are transferred without problems for the new owners.

The Tribune Co. reached an agreement Aug. 21 to sell a 95 percent stake in the Cubs and Wrigley Field, as well as a 25 percent stake in Comcast SportsNet Chicago, to the Ricketts family, which will contribute $832 million to the partnership.

The newspaper reported the Tribune will control the remaining five percent stake and receive roughly $740 million.
