MLB: San Diego 4, Arizona 0

Phoenix, Sept. 26: Kevin Correia reached a career milestone Friday by throwing a six-hit shutout that gave San Diego a 4-0 victory over Arizona.

In the 78th start of his major league career, spread over seven seasons, Correia threw his first shutout and first complete game. He has also made 124 relief appearances.
Correia (12-10) struck out seven and walked only one.

Will Venable and Chase Headley drove in runs in the fourth, Adrian Gonzalez had an RBI single in the fifth and David Eckstein delivered another score with a single in the seventh.

The loss went to Max Scherzer (9-11), who surrendered three runs on five hits in five innings.

MLB: San Diego 11, Pittsburgh 6 (11 inn)

Pittsburgh, Sept. 21 -- Chase Headley was 5-for-6 and drove in the go-ahead run during a five-run 11th inning Monday in the San Diego Padres' 11-6 victory over Pittsburgh.

Headley hit a home run and had two RBI for the Padres. Adrian Gonzalez and Nick Hundley hit two-run homers, while Hundley and Oscar Salazar had three RBI apiece for San Diego.

Sean Gallagher (3-2) pitched a scoreless 10th inning to earn the win.

Andrew McCutchen and Ronny Cedeno each drove in two runs for the Pirates.

Jeff Karstens (3-5) took the loss after giving up five runs and three hits while recording only one out.

MLB: San Diego 7, Colorado 3

San Diego, Sept. 13 (UPI) -- Chase Headley knocked in two runs and Will Venable hit a solo homer Sunday in San Diego's 7-3 win over Colorado

Headley hit an RBI single and a sacrifice fly.

Venable had two hits and his homer started the scoring with one out in the bottom of the second.

Nick Hundley had two hits and one RBI.

Edgar Gonzalez hit an RBI single, while Drew Macias added two hits for the Padres, who have won four of five.

The winner was reliever Adam Russell (2-0).

Garrett Atkins led Colorado with a two-run, fourth-inning triple.

Ryan Spilborghs had one RBI, while Troy Tulowitzki had two of the six hits for the Rockies, who have lost two straight following an eight-game winning streak.

MLB: San Diego 7, Washington 0

San Diego, Sept. 2: Kevin Correia and Edward Mujica combined on a four-hit shutout Wednesday, leading San Diego's 7-0 rout of Washington and a three-game sweep.

Correia (10-10) gave up just three hits in 7 2/3 innings with two walks and five strikeouts.

Mujica replaced him after he loaded the bases with two outs in the top of the eighth and ended the threat without a run scoring.

Chase Headley and Adrian Gonzalez had two RBI apiece.

One run scored on Kevin Kouzmanoff's non-RBI groundout in the eighth.

David Eckstein had three hits and Will Venable added two hits and one RBI for the Padres, who have won five of six.

Ryan Zimmerman had two of the four hits for the Nationals, who have lost six straight.

MLB: San Diego 4, Chicago Cubs 1

San Diego, Aug. 18: Kyle Blanks hit a two-out, three-run homer to highlight a four-run ninth inning Monday and the San Diego Padres beat the Chicago Cubs 4-1.

Cubs' starter Ted Lilly and relievers John Grabow and Carlos Marmol had shut out the Padres on four hits through eight innings but closer Kevin Gregg (4-5) was unable to protect a 1-0 lead in the ninth. He issued a one-out walk to David Eckstein, who scored on a two-out double by Chase Headley to make it 1-1.

After walking Kevin Kouzmanoff intentionally, Gregg served up the home run ball to Blanks that allowed San Diego to win for the first time in its last five games.

Blanks and Headley had two hits each for the Padres.

MLB: San Diego 6, Milwaukee 5

Milwaukee, Aug. 13: Kevin Kouzmanoff's RBI single completed a four-run seventh Wednesday and the San Diego Padres held on to edge Milwaukee 6-5.

Adrian Gonzalez delivered two hits and scored twice one night after producing a career-best six hits.

The Padres trailed 3-2 going into the seventh but they sent 10 men to the plate in the frame while collecting four runs on five hits.

David Eckstein drove in the first run with a bases-loaded, fielder's choice grounder. A ground-rule double by Gonzalez brought home another run and, after Chase Headley was walked intentionally to load the bases, Will Venable drew a walk to force in a run.

Kouzmanoff then singled to left, driving in what turned out to be the winning run.

MLB: New York Mets 5, San Diego 1

San Diego, Aug. 9: Johan Santana gave up a run and five hits in eight innings Sunday, leading the New York Mets to a 5-1 win over the San Diego Padres.

The run scored after New York carried a 4-0 lead into the bottom of the sixth.
Santana (13-8) walked two and struck out four. He also had two hits and an RBI -- his two hits equaling his single-game career best.

Anderson Hernandez and Daniel Murphy also had two hits and one RBI apiece. Two runs scored on an error, and Luis Castillo added two hits for the Mets, who had lost six of seven.

San Diego's run scored on Chase Headley's sixth-inning single. Kyle Blanks had two of the six hits for the Padres, who won the first three contests in the four-game series.

MLB: Atlanta 9, San Diego 2

San Diego Aug. 5: Martin Prado drove in three runs Tuesday in Atlanta's 9-2 romp over the San Diego Padres.

Prado's solo home run in the fifth inning proved to the game winner, but the Braves tacked on four runs in the sixth to nail down just their second win in their last seven games.

Atlanta out-hit San Diego 17-4, while Javier Vazquez (9-7) picked up the win, giving up two runs on six strikeouts, four hits and two walks over seven innings.

Tim Stauffer (1-3) took the loss with three runs on eight hits over five innings.

Will Venable homered for the Padres, who had won six of seven coming into the game. His solo shot in the first inning gave San Diego a brief 1-0 lead.

MLB: San Diego 3, Colorado 1

San Diego, July 19: Chase Headley's pinch-hit solo home run put San Diego ahead in the seventh inning Saturday and the Padres went on to beat Colorado 3-1.

Eliezer Alfonzo drove in Kevin Kouzmanoff during the seventh to provide an insurance run. Kouzmanoff had two hits for the Padres, who have won just three of their last 15 games.

Padres' starter Kevin Correia went six innings, allowing one run on three hits with four walks and two strikeouts. Greg Burke (2-1) retired the side in the seventh to get the win and Heath Bell pitched the ninth to collect his 24th save.

Colorado's lone run came in on an RBI double by Brad Hawpe.

MLB: San Diego 10, San Francisco 4

San Francisco, July 12: Kevin Kouzmanoff and Eliezer Alfonzo hit three-run homers Sunday, keying San Diego's 10-4 win over San Francisco.

The first of Kouzmanoff's four hits staked San Diego to a quick 3-0 lead with no outs in the top of the first.

Alonzo's only hit made it 6-0 with two outs in the third.

Will Venable had four hits with four runs and one RBI. Luis Rodriguez had two hits and two RBI, while Chase Headley drove in a run for the Padres, who broke a seven-game losing streak.

Winner Kevin Correia (6-7) surrendered three earned runs and eight hits in 5 2/3 innings before three relievers finished the contest.

John Bowker led San Francisco with two hits -- one a two-run, fifth-inning homer.

MLB: Arizona 4, San Diego 3

Phoenix, July 8: Chad Tracy and Gerardo Parra each drove in two runs for the Arizona Diamondbacks Tuesday in their 4-3 win over the visiting San Diego Padres.

Doug Davis (4-8), allowed a dozen base runners but picked up the win by battling through 6 1/3 innings. He gave up nine hits and walked three but also struck out six.

Kevin Correia (5-7) took the loss after giving up four runs -- three earned -- on six hits over six innings. He also notched a half-dozen strikeouts.

San Diego took an early lead on Eliezer Alfonzo's RBI single in the second.

Arizona came back with two runs in the third and another pair in the fourth.

MLB: San Diego 5, Arizona 5

Phoenix, July 7: Mark Reynolds drove in the game-winning run in the ninth inning Monday in the Arizona Diamondbacks' 6-5 win over San Diego.

Arizona had tied the score in the eighth on a pinch-hit home run by Chad Tracy off Padres' reliever Luke Gregerson. San Diego closer Cla Meredith (4-2) retired the first two batters he faced in the ninth but then walked Justin Upton, who stole second and scored the game-winner on Reynolds' single to left.

Upton also had a two-run homer and finished with three RBI for the Diamondbacks, who won their third straight. Gerardo Parra ad Felipe Lopez had three hits apiece and Parra drove in a run for Arizona.
