Casey Janssen

MLB: Toronto 7, Baltimore 3

Toronto, Sept. 23 -- Casey Janssen began a four-inning scoreless stretch by the Toronto bullpen Wednesday in the Blue Jays' 7-3 victory over Baltimore.

Toronto overcame an early 2-0 deficit to win its third straight game.
Scott Richmond (7-10) left the game after five innings with a 4-3 lead and got the win thanks to outstanding relief pitching from Janssen, Josh Roenicke, Brandon League and Jason Frasor.

The relievers combined to give up a hit and one walk.

The Blue Jays broke a 2-2 tie with a three-run fourth. Travis Snider reached on a one-out fielding error by shortstop Cesar Izturis and moved to second on a balk by losing pitcher Jeremy Guthrie (10-16).

MLB: LA Angels 5, Toronto 4

Toronto, Aug. 21: Homers by Aaron Hill and Vernon Wells helped Toronto build a five-run lead Friday and the Blue Jays survived a shaky ninth to edge the Los Angeles Angels 5-4.

Los Angeles lost its second in a row after having won eight out of nine.

The Blue Jays scored four times in the first, with Hill hitting a solo homer and Jose Bautista contributing a two-run single.

Wells then gave Toronto a 5-0 advantage with a home run in the third and the Blue Jays took a shutout into the seventh.

Marc Rzepczynski (2-3) worked 6 1/3 innings to get the win, giving up just three hits to the normally high-scoring Angels.

MLB: Boston 10, Toronto 9

Toronto, Aug. 18: David Ortiz had a homer, three RBI and three runs scored Tuesday to help the Boston Red Sox outslug the Toronto Blue Jays 10-9.

Jacoby Ellsbury added two hits and three RBI for the Red Sox. Jason Bay homered and Victor Martinez and Alex Gonzalez each added an RBI.

Boston's Hideki Okajima (4-0) earned the win by pitching a scoreless seventh inning. Jonathan Papelbon had a four-out save, his 29th of the season, allowing two hits and walking three.

Boston starter Josh Beckett gave up seven runs and nine hits -- including three homers -- over 5 1/3 innings.

Rod Barajas had a two-run homer for the Blue Jays, who have lost five of their last six games.

Toronto pitcher out with shoulder injury

Toronto -- The Toronto Blue Jays have placed right hander Casey Janssen on the 15-day disabled list with inflammation in his surgically repaired throwing shoulder.

The move is retroactive to June 14.

The team recalled southpaw Brad Mills to replace Janssen to make his major league debut Thursday at Philadelphia.

Janssen missed the entire 2008 season while rehabbing a torn labrum that required surgery.

To date this season, he is 2-3 with a 6.23 ERA in five starts (26 innings).

He is the latest Toronto pitcher sidelined because of injury, including starter Roy Halladay (strained right groin), closer Scott Downs (left foot) and starter Jesse Litsch (season-ending right elbow Tommy John ligament-replacement surgery).
