Underwood to make debut in 'Surfer' film

New York -- U.S. country music star Carrie Underwood's big-screen debut will come this spring in a movie about Bethany Hamilton, a surfer who lost an arm in a shark attack.

Co-starring Dennis Quaid, Helen Hunt and AnnaSophia Robb, "Soul Surfer" will be the first movie to go out under a new FilmDistrict deal with Sony Pictures.

Robb is to play Hamilton and Underwood a church youth leader, EW.com said.

Shot on location in Hawaii, the film is set for release April 15 via TriStar Pictures with a marketing campaign managed by FilmDistrict.

Underwood, Fisher wed in Georgia

Greensboro, Ga. -- Grammy-winning "American Idol" star Carrie Underwood married Canadian NHL player Michael Fisher before 250 guests in Greensboro, Ga.

"We could not feel more blessed to have found each other and to have shared this day with our friends and family that mean so much to us!" the newlyweds told People magazine after their ceremony Saturday at the Ritz-Carlton Lodge on Reynolds Plantation.

Underwood and Fisher, a center for the Ottawa Senators, were engaged on Dec. 20, 2009, after a year of courtship.

The 27-year-old country singer walked down the aisle in a Monique Lhuillier chantilly lace gown, wowing guests including country music power couple Tim McGraw and Faith Hill, People said.

Underwood wins top ACM Award

Las Vegas -- Carrie Underwood became the first female artist to twice win the Academy of Country Music's Entertainer of the Year Award in Las Vegas Sunday night.

Underwood also won the honor last year.

Brad Paisley took home the prize for Top Male Vocalist and Miranda Lambert the trophy for Top Female Vocalist.

This is Paisley's fourth consecutive win in the category and Lambert's first.
Lambert also won the Album of the Year honor for her CD "Revolution" and the Video of the Year gong for her song "White Liar."

Brooks & Dunn earned the Top Vocal Duo title and, in addition, they sang the fan-selected song "My Maria" as their final Academy of Country Music Awards performance. The musicians recently announced plans to disband.

Bieber, Gaga set for 'Today' music series

New York -- Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber, Christina Aguilera and Carrie Underwood are to perform at this year's Toyota Concert Series on "Today" in New York, NBC said.

Also set to give mini-concerts this spring and summer outside the "Today" show studio in Manhattan are Maxwell, Ke$ha, Enrique Iglesias, Keith Urban, Rascall Flatts, John Mayer, Train, Katy Perry and the latest winner of "American Idol."

The concert series is to kick off May 14 with a performance by Sting.

Additional performances may be announced throughout the season, NBC said in a news release.

Fisher and Underwood get engaged

Ottowa -- Professional hockey player Mike Fisher says U.S. country music star Carrie Underwood accepted his marriage proposal during the weekend.

Fisher, who plays center for the Ottawa Senators, confirmed his engagement to Underwood in an interview with The Ottawa Citizen.

"It's true," Fisher told the newspaper. "We're both obviously excited and very happy and so, exciting times for sure."

The wedding date has not been set yet.

Fisher and Underwood have been dating for about a year.

Stars line up for CNN's 'Heroes' show

Los Angeles -- Carrie Underwood and Leona Lewis have agreed to perform at the third annual "CNN Heroes: An All-Star Tribute" show in Los Angeles, the network said Monday.

The event, to be presided over by CNN anchor Anderson Cooper, honors everyday citizens who are making a difference in their communities and beyond. CNN said.

The ceremony is to take place at the Kodak Theater in Hollywood and is to air globally Nov. 26 on CNN/U.S., CNN International and CNN en Espanol.

Celebrities scheduled to be presenters at the ceremony include Nicole Kidman, Kate Hudson, Neil Patrick Harris, Pierce Brosnan, Dwayne Johnson, Eva Mendes, Randy Jackson and Julia Louis-Dreyfus.

Additional appearances are expected to be announced in days to come, CNN said.

Underwood statue moves from NYC to DC

Washington -- The wax figure of country music singer Carrie Underwood will be on loan from Madame Tussauds New York to the franchise's Washington location through January.

The wax museum said the Underwood sculpture went on display in Washington Thursday.

"Underwood was an enthusiastic participant in the creation of her wax figure, spending more than an hour with a team of Madame Tussauds studio artists, who flew out to Carrie on tour for the figure sitting," the museum chain said in a release. "Underwood generously donated a replica of the dress that she wore to the 2006 CMA Awards, when she was first named Female Vocalist of The Year, to Madame Tussauds for her figure to don. The dress was designed by Trish Townsend and constructed by Dez Zamek."

Idol winner Carrie Underwood is "Entertainer of the Year"

Las Vegas, April 6: American Idol Fourth Season winner Carrie Underwood took home the much-coveted 'Entertainer of the Year' award at this year’s Academy of Country Music (ACM) Awards.

The country pop singer and songwriter became only the 7th female to win the award in the entire history of the ACM Awards, spanning 39 years. Previous female winners were Loretta Lynn, Dolly Parton, Barbara Mandrell, Reba McEntire, Shania Twain and the Dixie Chicks.

Upon accepting her award, Underwood said, "I've had a lot of good moments in the past four years. This one takes the cake. Thank you God, thank you fans, thank you to ACM for nominating me in the first place. I never thought I'd be nominated and never thought I'd win. I'm shaking. I don't know what to say."
