Doha -- Caroline Wozniacki's come-from-behind win Thursday at the WTA Championships in Qatar allowed her to lock up the year-end No. 1 ranking.
Wozniacki, playing her final round-robin match, took out Francesca Schiavone 3-6, 6-1, 6-1. She was clearly outplayed in the first set but only faced one break point after that.
The decision means Wozniacki will keep the No. 1 spot she took over Oct. 11 through the end of the year.
It also put her on the verge of advancing to the WTA Championships semifinals.

Daytona Beach -- Francesca Schiavone moved up two spots in Monday's world women's tennis rankings and Caroline Wozniacki inched closer to the No. 1 spot.
Schiavone advanced to the semifinals of the Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo last week and, as a result, moved from eighth to sixth in the world rankings.
The second five in the rankings are completely different this week. While the first five are the same, there could soon be a big change.
Wozniacki, who won the tournament in Tokyo, can overtake world No. 1 Serena Williams if Wozniacki advances to the quarterfinals of this week's WTA tournament in Beijing.
Williams, who has held the No. 1 spot for the last 48 weeks, has been sidelined by a foot injury since her win at Wimbledon.
