Lake Buena Vista, Fla. -- Free-agent first baseman Carlos Pena said Wednesday he's going to the Chicago Cubs for the 2011 season.
MLB.com reported Pena and the Cubs have reached agreement on a one-year contract for $10 million. The deal was worked out during the winter baseball meetings in Florida.
"I think when I looked at all of my options, and the teams that were interested, I just thought this was the perfect fit for me," Pena said.
Pena, 32, hit just .196 last year for Tampa Bay but led the Rays with 28 homers and managed a .325 on-base percentage thanks to 87 walks.

St. Petersburg, Fla. -- Carlos Pena homered and Evan Longoria added a pair of hits Monday to help the Tampa Bay Rays defeat Toronto 6-2.
Pena drove in a run with a first-inning sacrifice fly and added a three-run blast in the third to give the Rays a 5-1 lead.
Longoria capped the scoring with an eighth-inning sac fly and Tampa Bay took the opener of a three-game series at Tropicana Field with their seventh win in nine contests.
They entered the game tied with the New York Yankees atop the American League East.
Wade Davis (11-9) gave up six hits and two runs over 7 2/3 innings, fanning three without a walk.
Blue Jays starter Brett Cecil (11-7) surrendered five hits and five runs (two earned) over seven innings.

St. Petersburg, Fla. -- Carlos Pena's go-ahead RBI single highlighted a four-run, eighth-inning rally Monday and the Tampa Bay Rays defeated Texas 6-4.
Trailing 4-2 entering the inning, the Rays scored four times to chase Cliff Lee (10-6) and record a win in the first of a three-game set at Tropicana Field.
Carl Crawford beat out a double-play try, allowing B.J. Upton to score to pull the Rays to within a run. Evan Longoria then tied it with a run-scoring single and Pena -- fresh off the disabled list with a sore foot -- followed with the decisive hit.

St. Petersburg, Fla. -- Carlos Pena had three hits, including a home run Thursday, and drove in all of Tampa Bay's runs in the Rays' 4-2 win over the Detroit Tigers.
The victory gave Tampa Bay a sweep of the four-game series against the Tigers.
Rays starter Davis Price (14-5) allowed seventh hits and two runs over 6 1/3 innings while Randy Choate got two outs and Dan Wheeler pitched two innings without giving up a hit. Wheeler earned his second save.
Pena's home run -- his 23rd of the year -- came leading off the second inning. Detroit tied the score in the third when Will Rhymes, who had tripled, scored on a force out but Pena answered with a two-run, two-out single in the bottom of the inning that put Tampa Bay ahead for good.

St. Petersburg, Fla. Sept. 4: Fernando Rodney retired the final batter with the potential winning run on second Friday, allowing Detroit to escape with a 4-3 win over Tampa Bay.
The score was deadlocked at 1-1 going into the ninth, during which the teams combined to score five times.
Detroit won its fourth straight and increased its lead in the American League Central to six games over Minnesota.
The Tigers took the lead in the top of the ninth on an RBI single by Adam Everett. Curtis Granderson then drove in another run with a base hit and a sacrifice fly by Placido Polanco delivered what turned out to be the winning run.
Those three runs made a winner out of Detroit starter Justin Verlander (16-7), who gave up a run on four hits over eight innings.

St. Petersburg, Fla. Sept. 2: Pat Burrell singled in the go-ahead run in the eighth Wednesday and Evan Longoria soon added a two-run homer, launching Tampa Bay to an 8-5 win over Boston.
The Red Sox, whose four-game winning streak ended, saw their lead in the American League wild-card race trimmed to 2 1/2 games over Texas. Tampa Bay is five games back.
Facing a 5-4 deficit in the top of the eighth, Boston loaded the bases with one out and scored the tying run on a wild pitch by reliever J.P. Howell.
Howell then struck out Alex Gonzalez and Jacob Ellsbury to prevent further damage and the Rays regained the lead in the bottom half of the inning.

St. Petersburg, Fla. Sept. 1: J.D. Drew hit a two-run homer Tuesday to lead the Boston Red Sox to an 8-4 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays.
Kevin Youkilis and Jason Bay added solo homers for the Red Sox, who have won four straight and seven of their last eight games.
Jon Lester (11-7) got the win after allowing two runs on seven hits over six innings.
Boston is 3 1/2 games ahead of Texas and six games in front of Tampa Bay for the AL wild-card spot.
Carlos Pena hit a solo homer and had two RBI and two runs, and Dioner Navarro had an RBI for the Rays, who have lost four of their last six games.
Andy Sonnanstine (6-8) took the loss after giving up five runs on eight hits in just four-plus innings.

Detroit -- Carlos Pena had three hits, with a homer, and four RBI Monday to lead the Tampa Bay Rays to an 11-7 win over Detroit.
Jason Bartlett and Evan Longoria had three hits, Bartlett had a home run and Longoria scored three runs and had an RBI for the Rays, who scored six times in the first inning.
James Shields (9-10), who won his second straight start, gave up five runs on
10 hits in seven innings.
Carlos Guillen had two home runs and two singles for Detroit, which saw its AL
Central Division lead over second-place Minnesota cut to four games. The Twins and the third-place Chicago White Sox are scheduled to play Monday night.

Toronto, Aug. 25: Carlos Pena hit a pair of two-run homers Tuesday and the Tampa Bay Rays added to their success against Toronto this season by downing the Blue Jays 7-3.
Pena's homers came in the second and third innings, helping the Rays built a quick 6-1 lead.
Tampa Bay defeated Toronto for the 11th time in 14 meetings this year and stayed within three games of Boston for the lead in the American League wild-card race.
James Shields (8-10) allowed eight hits but only three runs in 6 1/3 innings to get the win. Shields had gone 1-4 in his previous five starts.
Both of Pena's homers came off Brett Cecil (5-3), who surrendered five runs on six hits in 3 1/3.

Toronto, Aug. 24: Carlos Pena put Tampa Bay in front with a two-run homer in the fifth Monday and the Rays went on to down Toronto 12-7.
Tampa Bay overcame an early three-run deficit with a 15-hit attack, most of it coming against Toronto ace Roy Halladay (13-7) -- who had his worst outing of the season, giving up eight runs and 12 hits with eight strikeouts over six innings. The 12 hits tied his career record high.
Rod Barajas hit a grand slam homer during Toronto's five-run second inning and the Blue Jays opened a 6-3 advantage through three.
Tampa Bay then broke loose against Halladay to win for the seventh time in nine games.

St. Petersburg, Fla. Aug. 21: Ben Zobrist and Carlos Pena both homered in a three-run fifth inning Friday and Tampa Bay tightened the wild card race with a 5-3 win over Texas.
Scott Kazmir (8-7) took a shutout into the eighth inning before the Rangers made it close and the Rays went on to capture their sixth victory in seven games.
Tampa Bay already had a 2-0 lead going into the fifth, when Zobrist hit a two-run homer and Carlos Pena produced a solo shot, his 32nd of the season. Both long balls came off starter Dustin Nippert (4-2).
The Rays moved within three games of Boston for the lead in the American League wild card chase. Texas is one game behind the Red Sox.

St. Petersburg, Fla. Aug. 20: Brian Roberts hit a grand slam in the sixth and Nolan Reimold had a three-run shot one inning later Thursday, lifting Baltimore to an 8-7 win over Tampa Bay.
Reimold's homer gave the Orioles an 8-4 cushion and they barely held onto the lead to salvage the final contest in the three-game series and avoid a sweep.
The Rays had a four-game winning streak snapped and fell four games behind Boston in the American League wild-card race. Baltimore had lost its previous five games.
Tampa Bay closed within one run with a three-run eighth -- two of the runs scoring on a broken-bat bloop to left by Carlos Pena.
