MLB: Minnesota 7, Los Angeles Angels 2

Minneapolis -- Brian Duensing turned in his second straight excellent outing in an eight-inning effort Friday, leading Minnesota to a 7-2 decision over the Los Angeles Angels.

Duensing (7-1) gave up a run on seven hits while striking out six. That followed his first complete game and shutout Aug. 14 against Oakland.

In 15 career starts, Duensing has a 9-1 record. He threw 78 of 103 pitches for strikes Friday.

Jason Kubel hit a three-run homer in the third to give the Twins a 4-0 lead and Minnesota went on to boost its advantage over second-place Chicago in the American League Central to 4 1/2 games. The White Sox were rained out Friday in Kansas City.

The Twins have won seven out of eight and 10 of their last 11 home games.

MLB: Minnesota 3, Detroit 0

MinneapolisS, Sept. 19 (UPI) -- Brian Duensing threw 6 1/3 shutout innings Friday to lead Minnesota past Detroit 3-0 and help the Twins narrow their deficit in the race for a division title.

The Twins won their fifth straight game and Detroit lost for the eighth time in 11 games. The Tigers have seen their advantage over Minnesota in the American League Central reduced to three games.

Minnesota and Detroit will meet twice more in this series and have four games scheduled against each other at the end of the month.

Duensing (4-1) allowed four hits and walked one before turning things over the bullpen to complete the shutout.

MLB: Toronto 6, Minnesota 3

Toronto, Sept. 8: John McDonald hit a three-run homer in a six-run sixth inning outburst Tuesday to lead the Toronto Blue Jays to a 6-3 win over Minnesota.

Edwin Encarnacion hit a two-run single and Randy Ruiz drove in the other run for the Blue Jays.

Winning pitcher Ricky Romero (12-7) gave up three runs on seven hits over 6 2/3 innings.

Jason Kubel drove in two runs and scored once and Orlando Cabrera and Denard Span each had two hits and a run scored for the Twins, who have lost four of their last six games.

Twins starter Brian Duensing allowed three runs on six hits in five-plus innings. Jon Rauch (4-3) was charged with the loss.

MLB: Minnesota 3, Texas 2

Minneapolis, Aug. 29: Minnesota scored all its runs in the first inning Friday, and Joe Nathan survived a shaky ninth to preserve a 3-2 win for the Twins over Texas.

The Twins moved past the Chicago White Sox into second place in the American League Central, 4 1/2 games behind division-leading Detroit.

Joe Mauer, Jason Kubel and Michael Cuddyer had run-scoring hits in the first inning, and Minnesota starting pitcher Brian Duensing easily protected the lead.

Duensing (2-1), making only his second start since being called up from Class AAA Rochester, allowed a run on three hits and struck out eight over seven innings.

MLB: Minnesota 3, Chi. White Sox 2

Minneapolis, July 29: Alexi Casilla singled in the deciding run in the sixth Wednesday, allowing Minnesota to finish off a series sweep with a 3-2 win over the Chicago White Sox.

The Twins moved a game in front of Chicago for second place in the American League Central, two games behind division-leading Detroit. Minnesota has won 14 of its last 16 home games.

Brian Duensing got the start for Minnesota after Francisco Liriano was a late scratch with swelling in his pitching forearm. Duensing allowed two runs on three hits over five innings, but the win went to Jesse Crain (3-4) after he threw two scoreless frames.

MLB: Texas 5, Minnesota 3

Arlington, Texas July 20: Ian Kinsler's two-run home run off R.A. Dickey with one out in the 12th Sunday gave the Texas Rangers a 5-3 win over Minnesota.

Jarrod Saltalamacchia led off the inning with a single off Brian Duensing (0-1) and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Elvis Andrus to set up Kinsler's 22nd homer of the season and his second of the game. Kinsler had leff off the bottom of the first with a solo shot.

Marlon Byrd had two hits and scored twice and Andrus drove in a run for Texas, which won for the first time in its last five games.

Rangers' starter Derek Holland went four innings, allowing three runs on five hits with four walks and four strikeouts.
