Brett Myers

MLB: Houston 4, St. Louis 1

Houston -- Brett Myers gave up a run on five hits over eight innings Saturday, carrying Houston to a 4-1 triumph over St. Louis.

The Astros won for the fourth time in five games, jumping on the Cardinals for three runs in the first inning and then riding the solid performance from Myers.

Myers (6-6) struck out five and became the only starting pitcher in the majors this season to have gone six innings or more in each of his 18 starts.

Houston sent eight men to the plate in the opening inning against Jeff Suppan, getting a two-run single from Pedro Feliz and an RBI base hit from Humberto Quintero.

MLB: Houston 2, Tampa Bay 1

Houston -- Brett Myers cooled off the best team in baseball with a seven-inning effort Friday, allowing Houston to pull off a 2-1 victory over Tampa Bay.

The Rays entered interleague play with 30 wins, five more than any other club in the majors, and the Astros had the worst record in the National League.

Houston prevailed, however, thanks to Myers (3-3) giving up a lone unearned run on six hits with seven strikeouts. The Astros won for only the second time in eight games, and Tampa Bay had a six-game winning streak come to an end.

Ben Zobrist doubled home the only Tampa Bay run in the first. Jeff Keppinger singled in the tying run in the third and scored on a base hit by Hunter Pence in the sixth.

Phillies dump Brett Myers, Pedro Feliz

Philadelphia -- The Philadelphia Phillies have released pitcher Brett Myers and third baseman Pedro Feliz at the start of what could be an off-season roster overhaul.

Various media reports this week said the status of closer Brad Lidge, first baseman Matt Stairs, utility infielder Eric Bruntlett, catcher Paul Bako and reliever Scott Eyre likely are shaky among team officials. The club did, however, decide to keep starter Cliff Lee for the 2010 season.

"If I don't fit their plans, that's fine with me," Myers said on the Phillies' Web site late Friday. "There's nothing I can do about it."
