Breeders' Cup Friday Races a Puzzle

Louisville, Ky. -- It's ironic Friday is the unofficial "filly and mares" day at the Breeders' Cup World Championships at Churchill Downs.

The irony is that the top two distaffers on the entire program -- Zenyatta, trying to wrap up her career in the $5 million Classic with a record of 20 straight wins, and Goldikova, going for an unprecedented third straight victory in the $2 million Mile -- will be running Saturday against the boys.

But that takes nothing away from the Friday program, which has some of the deepest and most talented fields ever.
