MLB: Arizona 5, San Diego 2

Phoenix -- Brandon Allen hit a grand slam in his 2010 Arizona debut Wednesday, rallying the Diamondbacks to a 5-2 win over struggling San Diego.

The division-leading Padres, who began the day with a four-game lead over San Francisco in the National League West, lost their seventh straight.

Allen was called up from Class AAA Reno Wednesday, the first day major league rosters could be expanded. He went 2-for-3 and hit his fifth major league homer in the seventh inning to bring the Diamondbacks back from a 2-1 deficit.

Allen's other four home runs came last year, when he played 32 games with the Chicago White Sox and Arizona.

MLB: Arizona 10, San Francisco 8

Phoenix, Sept. 23: Miguel Montero and Brandon Allen each had two RBI Tuesday in the Arizona Diamondbacks 10-8 win over San Francisco.

The loss dropped the Giants five games behind Colorado in the National League wild-card race.

Rusty Ryal went 3-for-3, hit a solo home run, and scored three runs for the Diamondbacks, scored nine runs in the first three innings.
Doug Davis (8-13) won for the first time since Aug. 10 despite giving up five runs on 10 hits over 7 1/3 innings.

Matt Cain (13-7) took the loss after lasting only 2 1/3 innings. Cain surrendered seven runs on eight hits.

Randy Johnson pitched an inning in relief and coughed up Ryal's home run.

MLB: Arizona 7, Colorado 5

Phoenix, Sept. 19: Home runs by Brandon Allen and Ryan Roberts Friday helped rally Arizona to a 7-5 victory over Colorado.
The Rockies built a 4-1 lead through three innings before faltering in the seventh game of a nine-game road trip. Colorado, which began the night 3 1/2 games in front of San Francisco in the National League wild-card race, has a 2-5 record on the trip.

Arizona tied it with a three-run fourth, two of the scores coming on Allen's fourth home run of the season.

A two-run double by Gerardo Parra gave the Diamondbacks the lead in the seventh and Roberts hit a solo homer in the eighth.

Leo Rosales (2-1) got the victory as the third Arizona pitcher of the night. He worked a perfect seventh inning and Juan Gutierrez survived a shaky ninth for his sixth save. Gutierrez allowed a run and had two men on base before retiring the final three batters of the inning to end the game.

MLB: Arizona 4, San Diego 2 (10 innings)

San Diego, Sept. 15 (UPI) -- Brandon Allen singled in the game-winning run in the top of the 10th inning Monday for a 4-2 Arizona decision over San Diego.

Billy Buckner held the Padres to two runs -- one earned -- on nine hits and one walk over six-plus innings. He struck out eight. Clay Zavada (3-3) picked up the win with a scoreless ninth. Juan Gutierrez got his fourth save of the year.

Adam Russell (2-1) was cuffed with the loss after giving up consecutive one-out singles to Gerardo Parra, Ryan Roberts and then Allen.

Buckner also drove in two runs for the Diamondbacks, who had lost nine of 10 going into the game.

Pinch-hitter Alex Romero added an insurance run with an RBI groundout.

MLB: Arizona 11, San Francisco 0

San Francisco, Aug. 28: Yusmeiro Petit allowed four hits over six innings Thursday and the Arizona Diamondbacks used a 14-hit attack to easily subdue San Francisco 11-0.

The Giants missed a chance to close ground on Colorado in the National League wild-card race, remaining three games behind the Rockies. San Francisco will host Colorado in a three-game series beginning Friday.

Petit (3-8) ended a three-start losing streak, striking out five and walking two.

Three relievers combined to give up one hit over the final three innings.

Brandon Allen drove in four runs, three of them with a fifth-inning homer that gave the Diamondbacks an 8-0 lead. He tacked on an RBI double in the ninth.
