Oakland, Calif., Sept. 19: Brad Ziegler struck out Kelly Shoppach with the potential tying run on second base Friday, preserving Oakland's 2-1 victory over Cleveland.

The Athletics won their fifth in a row, taking a shutout into the ninth inning before Ziegler picked up his seventh save.

Shin-Soo Choo singled with one out in the ninth and scored on a two-out double by Matt LaPorta.

Shoppach, with a chance to send the game into extra innings, looked at a called third strike on a 1-2 pitch.

Nomar Garciaparra doubled home one of Oakland's runs in the second and Mark Ellis had an RBI single later in the inning.

Brett Anderson (10-10) struck out 10 and allowed four hits over six innings to get the victory.

MLB: Oakland 7, Tampa Bay 2

St. Petersburgh, Fla. July 12: Adam Kennedy and Rajai Davis hit two-run, seventh-inning homers Saturday, keying the Oakland Athletics' 7-2 win over Tampa Bay.

Orlando Cabrera had three hits and two RBI, and his two-run eighth-inning double produced the game's final scoring. Mark Ellis drove in a run and Matt Holliday had two hits for the Athletics, who snapped a three-game losing streak.

Winner Dallas Braden (7-7) gave up two earned runs and five hits in six innings with two walks and six strikeouts.

Relievers Michael Wuertz, Brad Ziegler and Andrew Bailey threw one scoreless inning apiece, striking out a combined seven of the nine batters they faced.

MLB: Oakland 5, Detroit 1

Oakland, Calif. July 1: Jack Cust and Jason Giambi belted two-run homers Wednesday, keying Oakland's 5-1 win over the Detroit Tigers.

The 14th homer by Cust this season erased an early 1-0 deficit with two outs in the bottom of the fourth inning, while Giambi's 11th upped the lead to 4-1 with no outs in the sixth.

Kurt Suzuki had one RBI for the Athletics, who won twice in the three-game series following a five-game losing streak.

Winner Dallas Braden (6-7) surrendered an earned run and five hits in seven innings before a mop-up by relievers Brad Ziegler and Andrew Bailey.

Detroit's run scored on Gerald Laird's second-inning double.

MLB: Oakland 5, San Francisco 1

Oakland, Calif. June 23: Trevor Cahill went seven innings and Bobby Crosby had three RBI Monday in the Oakland Athletics' 5-1 inter-league win over San Francisco.

Cahill (5-5) limited San Francisco to one run on four hits with one run and four strikeouts for his third consecutive victory.

Brad Ziegler struck out four over two innings of no-hit, shutout ball to pick up his sixth save.

Orlando Cabrera had two hits, one RBI and a run scored for the A's, who had lost five straight to the Giants. The victory was Oakland's third in their last four games overall.

Travis Ishikawa accounted for the Giants' scoring with a second-inning solo homer.

MLB: LA Dodgers 3, Oakland 2

Los Angeles, June 19: Orlando Hudson hit a solo homer and Mark Loretta had a key pinch-hit RBI Thursday in the Los Angeles Dodgers' 3-2 inter-league win over Oakland.

Hudson's homer, his fifth of the season, came with two out in the third inning and tied the score at 1-1. Loretta's RBI single in the seventh put the Dodgers ahead 3-2 and LA held on to win.

Juan Pierre had an RBI and James Loney and Russell Martin each scored a run for the Dodgers, who have won four of their lqst five games.

LA starter Randy Wolf went six innings, allowing one run on five hits with four walks and three strikeouts, but he did not figure in the decision. Brent Leach got the win pitching 2/3 of an inning in relief, and Ramon Troncoso got his fourth save.
