British market recalls mothy figs

London -- The Asda supermarket chain, Britian's second-largest, Friday recalled its Wholefoods brand of Garland Figs because of a larvae infestation, the company said.

Some customers allegedly found larvae belonging to fig moths in packs with the barcode 05050854916182, Sky News reported.

In a statement, Asda said: "Clearly this isn't right. We're sorry this has happened and are busy getting to the bottom of it with our supplier to make sure it will never happen again."

Customers can get a refund by bringing their tainted fruit to any Asda store, Sky News said.

Asda, a subsidiary of Wal-Mart, is second in size only to Tesco.

Police: Shoplifter returned to ask for job

Colne, England -- British police said they arrested a man who showed up for a job interview at a store he had stolen from three days earlier.

Investigators said Simon Holden, 22, applied for a job at a Colne, England, Asda supermarket and was recognized by the manager when he arrived for an interview, The Sun reported Tuesday.

Store bosses said closed-circuit TV footage depicts Holden stealing four boxes of lager from the store three days before his interview. They said Holden ran off with two more crates of alcohol after he discovered he had been recognized.
