Sacramento -- The administration of California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger Tuesday appealed a judge's ruling blocking a proposed furlough of state government employees.
Administration lawyers filed the appeal with the 1st District Court of Appeals, the Los Angeles Times reported.
Alameda County Superior Court Judge Steven A. Brick ruled Monday that furloughs would create undue hardship for state workers. The ruling came in a suit filed by union officials, in opposition to Schwarzenegger's plan to require about 150,000 state employees to take three unpaid days off per month until legislative leaders adopt a state budget.
Essentially, the furloughs, which would have begun Friday, would have amounted to a 14 percent reduction in pay, the newspaper said.

Industry, Calif. -- California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger Thursday signed legislation to clear the way for construction of a 75,000-seat stadium in suburban Los Angeles.
The bill provides an environmental impact exemption for construction of a stadium in the San Gabriel Valley, 15 miles from Los Angeles, a key element in any effort to bring an NFL franchise to the market.
Schwarzenegger said the project, which is projected to cost an estimated $800 million, could result in creation of 18,000 jobs.
"This is the best kind of action state government can create -- action that cuts red tape, generates jobs, is environmentally friendly and brings a continued economic boost to California," he said at a news conference.

Los Angeles -- California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger says recently arrested filmmaker Roman Polanski should be treated like anyone else in the eyes of the law.
Polanski, 76, was arrested last weekend in Switzerland on an outstanding U.S. warrant in connection with a 1977 child-sex case.
The famous film director, who lives in France, has not traveled to the United States since he pleaded guilty in a Los Angeles court to having unlawful sex with a minor and then fled the country before he could be sentenced. He was accused of drugging and raping Samantha Geimer when she was 13.
Polanski's lawyers have alleged misconduct on the part of the Los Angeles criminal justice system at the time of the plea deal.
