 We recently learned from two of the biggest distributors of technology devices that tablets are among the fastest-growing product lines both domestically and in Europe. Tech Data (Nasdaq: TECD) and Ingram-Micro(NYSE: IM) both pointed to strong demand throughout the entire technology space and the surprising strength of tablet sales, especially to corporations. Although Ingram-Micro CEO Greg Spierkel reported that much of the sales were to corporations with a large base of outside traveling salespeople, it looks as if the financial industry will also soon be a large source of customers.

 

iPhone app catches burglars on camera

Dallas -- A Dallas man said he was able to catch burglars on camera from 1,400 miles away with the help of a $4.99 iPhone application.

Vincent Hunter said he was in Connecticut Friday afternoon when the iPhone app, iCam, alerted him to movement on the Web cams set up inside his home, WFAA-TV, Dallas, reported Tuesday.

"I've got a few webcams set up," he said. "We could see it unfolding."

Hunter said the application allowed him to view a live feed of two men shattering his patio door with a brick. He said he called 911 and watched as Dallas police entered the home seeking the two men, who fled the house

Police said they are searching for the two men, who are believed to be behind a number of local burglaries.

Few people remember it now, but for the first year after the launch of theApple (Nasdaq: AAPL) iPhone in June, 2007, there was no App Store. The device came with a few built-in or "native" apps like a calendar, a clock, and a notebook, along with a couple of third-party apps like the  YouTube player and the Google (Nasdaq: GOOG) Maps app. But generally speaking, it didn't run software written by third parties. As a substitute, Apple encouraged developers to build Web apps that would run inside the phone's Safari browser.
