White Plains, N.Y. -- Andy Roddick, who finished 2010 ranked No. 8 in the world, has committed to play Davis Cup tennis for the United States next year.
Roddick wasn't on the U.S. team that lost a first-round series in March to Serbia, which went on to win the 2010 Davis Cup title. But he said he would rejoin the team for its March 4-6 first-round series against Chile.
Those matches will mark the debut of Jim Courier as U.S. team captain.
"Having Andy commit to the 2011 campaign is huge for our team," Courier said. "Andy not only brings his outstanding Davis Cup record but also his experience and team leadership, which will be invaluable to our efforts.

London-- Andy Roddick returned to the men's tennis world Top 10 Monday after the ATP took the week off.

But David Ferrer lost 65 ratings points -- about 2 percent of his previous total -- and that was enough for Roddick to move from 11th to 10th. It ended a one-week stint in the Top 10 for Ferrer, who was ranked fifth in October 2008 but had bounced around the second 10 since then.

London -- Andy Roddick dropped two spots to No. 11 in the men's world tennis rankings, marking the first time no American is rated in the Top 10.
Roddick was ousted in the third round of the Legg Mason Tennis Classic last week. He'd been a semifinalist in the event last year and, as a result, lost 315 points in the rankings. That allowed Fernando Verdasco and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga to pass Roddick, who had been in the Top 10 each week since Aug. 21, 2006.
The only other change in the Top 10 was Tomas Berdych's one-spot improvement at the expense of the injured Juan Martin del Potro. Berdych is now seventh and del Potro slipped to eighth.
