MLB: Boston 8, Tampa Bay 4

St. Petersburg, Fla. Sept. 1: J.D. Drew hit a two-run homer Tuesday to lead the Boston Red Sox to an 8-4 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays.

Kevin Youkilis and Jason Bay added solo homers for the Red Sox, who have won four straight and seven of their last eight games.

Boston is 3 1/2 games ahead of Texas and six games in front of Tampa Bay for the AL wild-card spot.

Carlos Pena hit a solo homer and had two RBI and two runs, and Dioner Navarro had an RBI for the Rays, who have lost four of their last six games.

Andy Sonnanstine (6-8) took the loss after giving up five runs on eight hits in just four-plus innings.

MLB: New York Mets 5, Tampa Bay 3

New York, June 19: Brian Schneider hit a three-run homer in the first Friday and five pitchers limited Tampa Bay to six hits, bringing the New York Mets a 5-3 win over the Rays.

The homer was Schneider's first of the season and came in the first meeting between these clubs in eight years.

Fernando Nieve (2-0) had his second straight strong outing, giving up a run on three hits in six innings. Nieve, who is replacing John Maine in the rotation, surrendered two hits in a win over the New York Yankees last Saturday.

MLB: Tampa Bay 8, Washington 3

St. Petersburgh, Fla. June 13: Ben Zobrist hit a three-run homer in a seven-run sixth inning Saturday when the Tampa Bay Rays rallied to beat Washington 8-3.

Tampa Bay trailed 2-0 after three, but a solo fourth-inning homer by Carlos Pena set off the seven-run outburst. Gabe Gross hit a two-run homer and Evan Longoria hit a two-run double in the big inning.

Reid Brignac had three hits, while Pena and Longoria had two hits apiece for the Rays, who will attempt to sweep the three-game series Sunday.

MLB: Tampa Bay 7, Cleveland 5

St. Petersburg, Fla. -- Despite a lineup error, winner Andy Sonnanstine knocked in a run and hurled 5 2/3 innings Sunday in Tampa Bay's 7-5 win over Cleveland.

Sonnanstine (2-4) was a batter because a mix-up on Tampa Bay's lineup card had both Ben Zobrist and Evan Longoria playing third.

Longoria was supposed to be the DH, but because of the mistake, the Rays were forced to play without a designated hitter and Sonnanstine had to bat third.

He hit a fourth-inning RBI double.

Michael Hernandez hit a three-run fourth-inning double and Jason Bartlett had three hits and one RBI for the Rays, who won the final three contests in the four-game series.

Cleveland's Ben Francisco had two hits -- one a three-run second inning homer.
