Alex Tanguay

NHL: Calgary 3, Minnesota 2 (SO)

St. Paul, Minn. -- Alex Tanguay and Rene Bourque scored in the shootout Friday, bringing the Calgary Flames a 3-2 victory over Minnesota.

Tanguay's score in the opening round of the shootout was answered by Minnesota's Patrick O'Sullivan to start the third. Bourque then put a wrist shot between the pads of Niklas Backstrom to give the Flames the win.

Calgary defeated Minnesota for the second time in five games and handed the Wild their fourth straight loss.

It was a 1-1 contest heading into the third period, but Tanguay gave Calgary the lead 4:29 into the stanza with his eighth goal of the season.

Martin Havlat tied it on a backhander with 7:21 to play in regulation.

NHL: Tampa Bay 3, Montreal 1

Montreal -- Tampa Bay got a goal and an assist each from Ryan Malone and Alex Tanguay Saturday as the Lightning downed the Montreal Canadiens 3-1.

The Bolts dealt a blow to Montreal just over two minutes into the second period, regaining a two-goal lead at 3-1 when Tanguay blasted a shot off the post and rookie centerman James Wright drove to the net to pick up the puck, which was sitting just behind Montreal goalie Carey Price along the goal line.

At the other end of the ice, Tampa Bay's Antero Niittymaki stood tall in the net with 36 saves.

NHL: Tampa Bay 2, Toronto 1 (OT)

Toronto -- Ryan Malone connected on a goal 2:21 into overtime Tuesday to give the Tampa Bay Lightning a 2-1 win over Toronto.

Alex Tanguay's pass found Malone at the far post, where he got his stick on the puck and pushed over the goal line. After a review, officials determined the net did not come off its moorings and the score stood up, giving the Bolts the win.

Vinny Lecavalier also scored for the Lightning, who broke a two-game losing streak and notched their first road win of the season. Antero Niittymaki made 40 saves.

Tanguay signs with Tampa Bay Lightning

Tampa, Fla. -- Free-agent left wing Alex Tanguay officially became a member of the Tampa Bay Lightning Tuesday.
The NHL club didn't reveal how much it will pay the 29-year-old winger or how long the deal is for.

Tanguay scored 16 goals and had 25 assists in 50 games for Montreal last year before separating a shoulder in a Dec. 30 game against Tampa Bay that caused him to miss 28 games.

The former first-round draft pick helped Colorado win the 2001 Stanley Cup. He was traded to Calgary following the 2005-06 season and spent the next two years there before being traded to Montreal.

Tanguay has 193 goals and 580 points in 659 games.
