MLB: Toronto 9, Boston 5

Toronto -- Alex Gonzalez ignited a Toronto comeback with a two-run homer in the fourth Saturday and the Blue Jays went on to down Boston 9-5.

Toronto had lost its previous seven home games against the Red Sox.

Boston took a 5-3 lead through three innings, but Gonzalez tied it with his homer and a two-run double by Fred Lewis in the fifth put Toronto in front for good.

Adam Lind and Jose Bautista added solo homers to finish the scoring. It was the 24th home run of the season for Bautista, tops in the majors.

The win went to Shawn Camp (3-1), who threw 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief. Kevin Gregg recorded the final four outs for his 20th save.

MLB: Boston 9, LA Angels 8

Boston, Sept. 17 (UPI) -- A bases-loaded single by Alex Gonzalez with two out in the ninth inning Wednesday rallied Boston to a wild 9-8 victory over the Los Angeles Angels.

Los Angeles let a lead get away three times, allowing the Red Sox to extend their winning streak to seven games.

Boston remained 6 1/2 games behind the New York Yankees in the American League East and moved 6 1/2 games in front of Texas in the wild-card race.

The Angels stayed six games ahead of the Rangers in the AL West.

Los Angeles lost leads of 3-0, 7-5 and 8-7. After the Angels took a one-run advantage in the top of the ninth on an RBI single by Bobby Abreu, the Red Sox came back for two runs off closer Brian Fuentes (1-5) in the bottom half of the inning.

MLB: Tampa Bay 8, Boston 5

St. Petersburg, Fla. Sept. 2: Pat Burrell singled in the go-ahead run in the eighth Wednesday and Evan Longoria soon added a two-run homer, launching Tampa Bay to an 8-5 win over Boston.

The Red Sox, whose four-game winning streak ended, saw their lead in the American League wild-card race trimmed to 2 1/2 games over Texas. Tampa Bay is five games back.

Facing a 5-4 deficit in the top of the eighth, Boston loaded the bases with one out and scored the tying run on a wild pitch by reliever J.P. Howell.

Howell then struck out Alex Gonzalez and Jacob Ellsbury to prevent further damage and the Rays regained the lead in the bottom half of the inning.

MLB: Chicago White Sox 9, Boston 5

Boston, Aug. 28: Jayson Nix and Carlos Quentin led Chicago to eight runs over the first three frames Thursday and the White Sox avoided a four-game sweep by downing Boston 9-5.

The White Sox ended a four-game losing streak and broke a second-place tie with Minnesota in the American League Central. Chicago trails Detroit by four games for the division lead.

Boston's advantage in the wild-card race dwindled to 1 ½ games over Texas, which earlier in the day became the first visiting team in more than two months to win a series over the New York Yankees. Boston trails the Yankees by five games in the AL East.

Chicago scored four times in both the second and third innings. Nix drove in two runs with a double in the second and had an RBI single in the third.

MLB: Cincinnati 10, San Francisco 5

San Francisco, Aug. 8: A bases-loaded walk to Brandon Phillips ignited a five-run ninth inning Friday that broke a tie and lifted Cincinnati to a 10-5 victory over San Francisco.

Cincinnati got only one ball, a sacrifice fly, out of the infield in the inning, and only one of the five runs was earned.

Drew Sutton reached on a bunt single to start the inning against Brian Wilson (3-5), then Alex Gonzalez and Joey Votto walked to load the bases.

Phillips walked on five pitches to bring in Sutton with the go-ahead run.

MLB: Chicago Cubs 4, Cincinnati 2

Cincinnati, Aug. 3: Randy Wells pitched 7 1/3 innings Monday for the Chicago Cubs in a 4-2 victory over the Cincinnati Reds.

Wells (8-4) gave up a solo home run among six hits with two walks to win his fourth straight start. In his past nine starts he is 8-1.

Mike Fontenot hit a three-run homer and Derrek Lee drove in the other run for the Cubs, who have won four of their last six games.

The win puts Chicago in a virtual tie with St. Louis for the lead in the NL Central.

Alex Gonzalez hit a solo home run and an RBI double for the Reds, who have lost seven straight and 13 of their last 14 games.

MLB: Cincinnati 4, Cleveland 3 (11 inn.)

Cincinnati -- Alex Gonzalez hit an 11th-inning RBI double Sunday to lead the Cincinnati Reds to a 4-3 win over the Cleveland Indians.

It was the first time this season the Reds won a game in their final at-bat.

Gonzalez's third hit and third RBI broke a 3-3 tie with one out in the bottom of the 11th inning in the final contest of the three-game interleague series at Cincinnati's Great American Ball Park.

The shortstop went 7-for-12 in the series.

Jerry Hairston Jr. had one RBI and Ramon Hernandez added a run and three hits for the Reds, whose record rose to 17-3.

The winner was reliever Carlos Fisher (1-0) in his first major league contest.
