MLB: Kansas City 7, Seattle 3

Seattle -- Alberto Callaspo and Mitch Maier hit eighth-inning home runs Wednesday, rallying the Kansas City Royals to a 7-3 victory over Seattle.

With the Royals trailing 3-2 entering inning, David DeJesus and Brett Butler drew walks from Brandon League (5-6) and Callaspo followed with a blast to right field, giving Kansas City the lead.

Maier connected for a solo homer one out later, helping the Royals complete a three-game series sweep of the Mariners.

The big inning made a winner of Victor Marte (3-0), who tossed a scoreless seventh. Joakim Soria collected his major league-leading 25th save.

Billy Butler went 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored for Kansas City.

MLB: Kansas City 5, Boston 1

Kansas City, Mo., Sept. 22: Zack Greinke allowed just two hits in six innings Tuesday for his fourth straight when in the Kansas City Royals' 5-1 win over Boston.

Greinke (15-8), who has given up just one earned run over his last 35 innings, lowered his MLB-best ERA to 2.08.

Alberto Callaspo went 3-for-3, drove in a run and scored once for the Royals, who won their third straight game. Alex Gordon drove two runs in the win.

Paul Byrd (1-2) took the loss after allowing five runs on nine hits with four walks over 6 2/3 innings.

MLB: Kansas City 12, Boston 9

Kansas City, Mo., Sept. 22: Yuniesky Betancourt stroked a two-run single to ignite a six-run sixth inning Monday and the Kansas City Royals beat Boston 12-9.

Mike Jacobs had a three-run home run and Billy Butler, Alberto Callaspo and Alex Gordon drove in two runs apiece for the Royals, who erased an 8-2 deficit and earned their 11th win in 14 games.

Jason Bay had a three-run home run for the Red Sox, who lead Texas by 7 1/2 games in the AL wild-card chase, pending the outcome of the Rangers' game in Oakland Monday.

Victor Martinez had two RBI and ran his hitting streak to a career-best 20 games. Jacoby Ellsbury knocked in two runs for Boston.

MLB: Kansas City 11, Detroit 1

Detroit, Sept. 15: Alberto Callaspo, Miguel Olivo and David DeJesus each hit a three-run homer Tuesday to power Kansas City in an 11-1 rout of Detroit.

Callaspo also added a sacrifice fly, as the Royals won for the seventh time in eight games. Robinson Tejeda (3-1) made his third start of the season and allowed just one run on two hits and four walks in five innings.

Carlos Guillen had an RBI single.

The Tigers had only four hits in their sixth loss in eight games. The defeat narrows their division lead over Minnesota to five games.

Jarrod Washburn (9-9) lasted only one inning, giving up four runs, three hits and two walks.

MLB: Kansas City 7, Detroit 4

Kansas -- Alberto Callaspo and Yuniesky Betancourt knocked in two runs each Thursday, fueling Kansas City's 7-4 win that completed a three-game sweep of Detroit.

Callaspo hit an RBI single and a solo homer, while Alex Gordon also had a solo blast and Willie Bloomquist and Billy Butler added an RBI apiece for the Royals, who have won four in a row for the first time since June 12-16.

Both of Betancourt's hits were RBI singles.

The winner was reliever Roman Colon (2-3). Carlos Rosa pitched a scoreless ninth for his first career save.

Wilkin Ramirez, Gerald Laird, Placido Polanco and Adam Everett drove in Detroit's runs. Magglio Ordonez had three hits for the Tigers, who went into the series with a six-game winning streak.

MLB: Oakland 10, Kansas City 4

Oakland, Calif. Sept. 2: Landon Powell hit his first career grand slam Wednesday in Oakland's 10-4 victory over Kansas City.

Powell's grand slam, his fifth homer this season, capped a five-run inning, giving Oakland an 8-0 lead with two outs in the bottom of the second.

Rajai Davis and Ryan Sweeney had two hits and two RBI apiece.

Mark Ellis drove in a run.

Sweeney drove in a run with a groundout, while Jack Cust and Adam Kennedy added two hits each for the Athletics, who have split their last eight games.

Winner Trevor Cahill (8-12) gave up three runs and six hits in five innings.

Josh Anderson led Kansas City with two hits and one RBI.

MLB: Kansas City 4, Oakland 3

Oakland, Calif. Sept. 2: A two-run single by Joakim Soria was the big blow in a three-run sixth inning Tuesday that carried the Kansas City Royals to a 4-3 win over Oakland.

Callaspo's rap staked the Royals to a 4-1 lead that held up as Oakland scored single runs in the seventh and eighth inning.

Jay Marshall (0-2) took the loss after starting the sixth in relief of starter Edgar Martinez.

Closer Joakim Soria pitched the final two innings for his 21st save.

Kyle Davies (6-9) went six innings for the win. He gave up one run on four hits and struck out six.

Rajai Davis hit his third home run of the season off Davies in the first inning. Adam Kennedy and Mark Ellis drove in the other Oakland runs.

MLB: Kansas City 8, Seattle 4

Seattle, Aug. 28: Brayan Pena hit the first of four Kansas City home runs Thursday that powered the Royals past Seattle 8-4.

Kansas City needs one more victory to become the last team in the American League to reach 50 wins. Seattle had a three-game winning streak halted.

Pena hit a two-run homer in the first, Yuniesky Betancourt added a solo shot in the fifth and Kansas City then got two-run blasts from Alberto Callaspo in the sixth and David DeJesus in the seventh.

Kyle Davies (5-9) benefited from the homers to get a win after having lost eight of his previous 10 decisions. Davies gave up two runs on five hits over six innings.

MLB: Kansas City 5, Chicago White Sox 4

Chicago, Aug. 19: Three doubles and two RBI by Billy Butler helped carry the Kansas City Royals past the Chicago White Sox 5-4 Tuesday.

Butler, who is second in the majors with 41 doubles this season, drove in the tying run in the fifth inning and then scored the eventual game-winning run on a two-out single by Alberto Callaspo.

Joe Buck added a two-run homer for the Royals and Gil Meche (6-9) got the win despite allowing four runs on eight hits and five walks in five innings.
Joakim Soria tallied his 20th save.

MLB: Kansas City 8, Seattle 2

Kansas City, Mo. Aug. 6: Billy Butler's two-run homer ignited a five-run first inning Thursday and the Kansas City Royals went on to defeat Seattle 8-2.

The Royals ended a three-game losing streak, batting around in the first inning off Jason Vargas (3-6).

David DeJesus walked on four pitches to open the first and was erased at second on a fielder's choice grounder by Willie Bloomquist. Butler then gave Kansas City the lead for good with his 13th home run.

Brayan Pena and Alberto Callaspo kept things going with singles and both runners scored on a double by Mark Teahen. A two-out double by Yuniesky Betancourt brought in Teahen.

MLB: Tampa Bay 4, Kansas City 2

Kansas City, Mo. July 18: Willy Aybar went 4-for-4 and drove in the winning run Saturday to pace the Tampa Bay Rays to a 4-2 victory over the Kansas City Royals.

B.J. Upton had three hits and an RBI and Ben Zobrist added two hits and a run for the Rays, who have won five of their last seven games.

Tampa Bay starter Scott Kazmir gave up one run on four hits with four walks over six innings before leaving with arm trouble. Chad Bradford (1-0) earned the win for retiring the final batter of the seventh.

David DeJesus and Alberto Callaspo each drove in a run for the Royals, who have lost their last five games.

MLB: Kansas City 8, Boston 6

Boston, July 9: David DeJesus put Kansas City in front with a two-run homer in the sixth inning Thursday, lifting the Kansas City Royals to an 8-6 victory over Boston.

The Red Sox lost for the first time in three games and fell back into a tie with the New York Yankees for first place in the American League East.

Boston took a 4-0 lead through three innings and still maintained a 5-3 advantage going into the sixth before the Royals moved in front against the Red Sox bullpen.

Manny Delcarmen replaced starter Brad Penny in the sixth and gave up a leadoff double to Mark Teahen. Two outs later, Teahen was still on second base, but he scored on Alberto Callaspo's double.
