Google has begun adding flight schedules to its search results. The internet search giant announced Friday the addition of flight schedule and airport destinations to its search results, a feature that will help people find a list of destinations, durations, and airlines at one click.

Southwest unveils new frequent flier program

Southwest Airlines has announced a revamped frequent flier program. The new system which will come into effect from March, 1 will award credit points according to the price of ticket.

Expedia stops sale of American Airlines tickets

Does US Airways Group Measure Up?

I'm looking for the absolute numbers, comparisons to sector peers and competitors, and any trend that may tell me how strong US Airways Group's competitive position could be.

Air travel and fares head up for holiday

New York -- Pent up demand is apt to increase travel on U.S. airlines for the Thanksgiving holiday, industry analysts said.

"Many who stayed home for the holidays last year are hopping on a plane this year," said FareCompare.com Chief Executive Officer Rick Seaney, The Dallas Morning Star reported Tuesday.

The Air Transport Association also predicted an increase in fliers for the holiday. The trade group said 3.5 percent more passengers will fly this year compared to a year ago for a total of 24 million.

The ATA counts a 12-day period, Nov. 19 through Nov. 30, as Thanksgiving travel.

As the number of passengers recovers from a prolonged, recessionary slump, however, fare prices are also headed higher.

FAA proposes more rest time for pilots

Washington -- The Federal Aviation Administration has proposed altering rest mandates for U.S. commercial pilots in a what could be a costly set of rule changes.

Airlines may need to hire more pilots to allow pilots to enough time to rest between work shifts, The Los Angeles Times reported Saturday.

The study of pilot fatigue was prompted by a crash near Buffalo, N.Y., last year that killed 50 people during a regional flight. At the time it was noted that pilots frequently fly hundreds of miles, as commuters, just to make it to their next flight assignment, cutting down on the time they have to actually sleep.

Kids hop plane to Nashville

Jacksonville, Fla. -- Southwest Airlines said no rules were broken when three youngsters, ages 15, 13 and 11, used some savings to fly solo from Florida to Nashville.

Bridget Brown, 15, of Jacksonville, said she has saved about $700 from babysitting proceeds so she asked friend Bobby Nolan III, 13, if there was anywhere he wanted to go via plane, First Coast News reported Friday.

The duo brought Brown's 11-year-old brother along to the airport and the three of them purchased tickets to Nashville at the Southwest counter.

"He said OK and told us how much it would be and then we paid him," Brown said. "Then he put the flight things on our bags and then he said you better run because you might miss your flight.

JetBlue Airways awarded highest honors in airline customer satisfaction

JetBlue Airways (Nasdaq: JBLU), hometown airline of New York, has been awarded the highest honor in airline customer satisfaction.

Honored by J.D. Power and Associates 2010 North America Airline Satisfaction Study(SM), the carrier has received the award for the fifth year in a row.

Also, it is the sixth consecutive customer satisfaction award that the airline has received from the J.D. Power and Associates.

Accepting the honor, Dave Barger, president and CEO of JetBlue Airways, said, “On behalf of JetBlue's 12,500 crewmembers, we humbly accept this recognition for the sixth consecutive year."

Spirit Airlines to charge travelers for carry-on luggage

After becoming the first airline in the nation to charge passengers fees for checked bags and beverages three years ago, Spirit Airlines has again taken the lead as it will soon charge air travelers for carry-on bags.

Airlines crowds arrived early this year

New York -- Rough economics pushed U.S. holiday travelers to find creative ways to fly this year, including avoiding expensive peak travel days, an airfare expert said.

Chief Executive Officer of FareCompare.com Rick Seaney said, "everybody's looking at every dime. They're all worried about their jobs."

Major airlines have found travelers booking flights early to avoid high fares, The New York Times reported Wednesday, one of the busiest travel days of the year.

Peggy Edwards of Atlanta said she pulled her children from school "for a couple of days, because it was so much cheaper." She arrived in New York Friday, the Times reported.

Edwards said she saved more than $100 on each fare by extending the vacation.
