MLB: Washington 7, Arizona 2

Phoenix -- Adam Dunn hit two homers and drove in four runs Wednesday as part of a 13-hit attack that lifted the Washington Nationals to a 7-2 win over Arizona.

Dunn ran his home run total for the year to 28, hitting a two-run blast in the first and a solo shot in the fourth. He also singled in a run in the seventh, giving him 71 RBI.

Craig Stammen (4-4) won his second straight start, holding the Diamondbacks to a run on six hits over 5 1/3 innings while throwing 99 pitches.

Ian Kennedy (6-9) suffered the loss, allowing four runs on eight hits in four innings.

MLB: Washington 8, San Francisco 1

Washington -- Adam Dunn homered twice and drove in three runs Friday, leading the Washington Nationals and Stephen Strasburg to an 8-1 victory over San Francisco.

Strasburg (3-2) halted a four-start winless streak, giving up a run on three hits over six innings. He struck out eight, running his strikeout total to 61 over 42 2/3 innings in his first seven major league appearances.

Dunn gave Washington a 2-1 lead with a solo shot in the fourth and added a two-run homer during a four-run seventh. He has five home runs and nine RBI in his last three games.

The Nationals won for the fourth time in six outings and were helped by two hits and two RBI from Wil Nieves.

MLB: Washington 7, San Diego 6

Washington -- Adam Dunn smashed three homers, driving in five runs and powering the Washington Nationals to a 7-6 win over San Diego Wednesday.

Dunn's three shots gave him 20 for the year. He belted a three-run homer in the first to give the Nationals a lead they wouldn't relinquish and followed that up with solo shots in the third and eighth innings.

The Nationals, however, had to hang on to record the win as the Padres scored four runs in the last three innings. Matt Stairs homered for San Diego in the ninth to pull the Padres to within a run, but Matt Capps managed to close it out for his 23rd save.

MLB: Washington 4, Pittsburgh 2

Washington -- Adam Dunn, Josh Willingham and Mike Morse all homered Thursday in helping the Washington Nationals down Pittsburgh 4-2 and sweep their three-game series.

It was the first three-game sweep for the Nationals this season.

Dunn hit his 13th homer of the year and Willingham had his 12th, both of them coming in the fourth. Mike Morse produced Washington's third solo homer of the game in the eighth.

That was enough for Livan Hernandez (5-3), who collected his first win since May 4. He gave up two runs on five hits over six innings. Hernandez has allowed up two runs or less in 10 of his 12 starts.

Washington had won just once in five outings prior to the Pittsburgh series, which began with the successful debut of pitcher Stephen Strasburg.

MLB: Washington 5, Florida 3

Miaami, Sept. 11 (UPI) -- Adam Dunn and Ryan Zimmerman homered Friday, leading the Washington Nationals to a 5-3 win over the Florida Marlins.

Dunn's 37th homer this season, a two-run shot off Florida starter Jason Johnson, came with two outs in the top of the first.

Zimmerman hit his 29th, a solo homer, with one out in the seventh.

Mike Morse hit a two-run, pinch-hit double in the sixth for the Nationals, who won their second straight contest despite just five hits.

The winner was starter J.D. Martin (4-4).

Closer Mike MacDougal got his 15th save despite giving up Dan Uggla's ninth-inning solo homer.

MLB: Washington 8, Philadelphia 7

Washington, Sept. 10: Ian Desmond had his first major league hit, his first RBI and his first home run Thursday to highlight the Washington Nationals' 8-7 victory over Philadelphia.

Desmond, who has spent six years in the minor leagues, finally was called up to the majors this month and got the start Thursday at shortstop for a team that has lost 92 games.

His heroics helped the Nationals build an 8-2 lead going into the ninth and they survived a five-run Philadelphia outburst to halt a two-game skid.

The Phillies had the tying run on third and the go-ahead run on first with one out in the ninth before Ryan Howard grounded into a double play to end the game.

MLB: Washington 8, Milwaukee 3

Washington -- Adam Dunn hit his 33rd homer of the season and Ryan Zimmerman pounded a two-run shot Sunday, boosting Washington to an 8-3 win over Milwaukee.

Dunn's leadoff blast gave Washington a 6-1 lead in the bottom of the third.

Zimmerman's homer in the fourth was one of his three hits in the game. Ronnie
Belliard added two RBI and Cristian Guzman drove in a run and scored three for the Nationals, who broke a five-game losing streak.

Winner Craig Stammen (4-6) gave up three runs and six hits in 6 1/3 innings.

Milwaukee's Alcides Escobar hit a solo homer and Jody Gerut and Felipe Lopez each had an RBI.

The losing pitcher was starter Manny Parra (8-10).

MLB: Colorado 5, Washington 4

Washington, Aug. 19: Solo homers by Clint Barmes and Carlos Gonzalez Wednesday led the Colorado Rockies to a 5-4 win over Washington.

Barmes and Gonzalez each had two hits. The homer by Gonzalez, his eighth, gave Colorado a 5-3 advantage leading off the top of the eighth.

Troy Tulowitzki hit a two-run first-inning double. Dexter Fowler had one RBI, while winning pitcher Jason Marquis added one hit for the Rockies, who have split their last four games.

Marquis (14-8) surrendered three runs and nine hits in six innings.

Closer Huston Street earned his 31st save despite giving up a solo homer to Josh Bard in the ninth.

MLB: Cincinnati 7, Washington 0

Cincinnati, Aug. 13: Bronson Arroyo threw the third shutout of his 10-year career Thursday, allowing two hits in carrying the Cincinnati Reds to a 7-0 victory over Washington.

Jonny Gomes hit three homers and drove in five runs to give Arroyo plenty of support.

Arroyo (11-11) made the 218th start of his career, the last four years of which have been spent with the Reds. Two of his shutouts have come this season and this was his ninth complete game in the majors.

He allowed a leadoff single to Adam Dunn in the second and a single to Ryan Zimmerman to open the seventh. Arroyo struck out three, walked one and threw 102 pitches.

Gomes hit a two-run homer in the second, added a two-run shot in the fourth and then hit a solo blast in the sixth.

MLB: Washington 5, Florida 4

Washington, Aug. 5: Jorge Sosa and Mike MacDougal combined to close the game with two scoreless innings Wednesday, preserving a 5-4 win for Washington over Florida.

Washington tied a season best by winning its fourth straight.

Ryan Zimmerman and Adam Dunn hit home runs in the first inning, and the Nationals never trailed. It was Dunn's third homer in as many games and his 29th of the season.

Ronnie Belliard added a solo homer during a two-run fourth that gave Washington a 5-1 lead, and the Nationals held on from there.

John Lannan (8-8) gave up two runs on eight hits over six innings to get the win. Lannan was replaced to start the seventh by Sean Burnett, who allowed the first two batters in the inning to reach base.

MLB: Washington 6, Florida 4

Washington, Aug. 4: Adam Dunn's two-run homer capped a six-run eighth-inning outburst Tuesday to help the Washington Nationals get a 6-4 win over the Florida Marlins.

Florida starting pitcher Josh Johnson homered and retired 20 consecutive batters before the eighth inning uprising that allowed the Nationals to beat the Marlins for the first time in 10 meetings this season.

Johnson allowed four runs and six hits in seven-plus innings.

Ronnie Belliard hit a pinch-hit two-run double during the rally.

Nationals' starter J.D. Martin gave up three runs and six hits over 4 1/3 innings. Winner Ron Villone (4-5) pitched 1 1/3 innings.

Chris Coghlan had three hits and scored a run for the Marlins.

Pittsburgh, Aug. 3: Adam Dunn had three hits including a three-run homer Monday to lead the Washington Nationals to an 8-4 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Cristian Guzman was 2-for-4 with two RBI, two runs scored and a walk. Ryan Zimmerman had a two-run homer and scored twice, and Elijah Dukes had two hits and an RBI for the Nationals.

Tyler Clippard (2-1) worked three innings of relief to earn the win. Washington starter Garrett Mock lasted four-plus innings and gave up three runs on seven hits and four walks.

Losing pitcher Charlie Morton (2-4) allowed four runs and six hits in six innings.

Jeff Karstens gave up four runs and five hits in two-thirds of an inning.
