Oprah says she's not a lesbian

Chicago -- U.S. talk show host Oprah Winfrey denies a rumor claiming she is a lesbian in an upcoming interview with Barbara Walters to air on ABC.

"I'm not a lesbian," People.com quoted Winfrey as saying.
"I'm not even kind of a lesbian," she elaborated. "And the reason why (the rumor) irritates me is because it means that somebody must think I'm lying. That's number one. Number two ... why would you want to hide it? That is not the way I run my life."

Particularly vexing, Winfrey said in the interview set for broadcast Thursday, is the fact the lesbian stories focus on her relationship with her longtime platonic friend Gayle King.

'Body of Proof' gets TV debut date

Los Angeles -- The new U.S. drama series "Body of Proof" is to debut in March, following the 18-episode run of "Detroit 1-8-7," ABC said Tuesday.

"Proof," a one-hour drama starring Dana Delany, will premiere March 29.

"Dr. Megan Hunt is a brilliant neurosurgeon whose world is turned upside down when an accident puts an end to her time in the operating room," ABC said in a synopsis of the show. "In her new career as a medical examiner, she is determined to solve the puzzle of who or what has killed the victims. Along the way, Megan finds that their lives and the lessons they hold can be applied to her own personal journey of redemption and forgiveness."

Fox topped the viewership rangers this week.

Fox Entertainment network succeeded in breaking the winning spell of CBS which started this fall by becoming the only network this week to beat CBS in viewer-ship ratings, all thanks to the 'World Series.'

Season 2 of 'V' to begin in January

Los Angeles -- ABC says it has set Jan. 4 as the Season 2 premiere of its U.S. science-fiction series "V."

Starring Elizabeth Mitchell, Morris Chestnut, Joel Gretsch, Charles Mesure, Logan Huffman, Laura Vandervoort, Morena Baccarin and Scott Wolf, the show is to return with fresh episodes Jan. 4.

New recurring stars for this season include Jane Badler, Oded Fehr, Jay Karnes and Bret Harrison.

"Simultaneously appearing over every major city in the world, the Visitors (or Vs) arrived offering us the wonders of their technology and promoting peace," the network said in a synopsis of the show.

ABC cancels 'My Generation'

Los Angeles -- ABC has confirmed it canceled its new U.S. drama series "My Generation" after the first two episodes earned low ratings, EW.com reported Friday.

It is unclear what the network will use to fill the time slot, the Web site said.

The show is the second of the 2010-11 television season to get the ax. Fox also canceled its freshman series "Lone Star" this week.

Westin quitting as ABC News president

New York -- ABC News President David Westin revealed in an e-mail to the U.S. TV network's news division employees Monday he is stepping down at year's end.

Weston said he is leaving after 13 years at ABC News because the timing is right.

"Leading you has been a great privilege and a solemn responsibility -- a responsibility that I tried to fulfill for over 13 years by doing what I believed was best for this important news organization," Westin said in the e-mail reported on the ABC Web site. "I will root for your continued success long after I am gone.

"I've always admired those few who know when it's time to move on. This is the right time for me."

Networks to air Stand Up to Cancer show

Los Angeles -- The Sept. 10 Stand Up to Cancer fundraising event will air live and commercial-free from Los Angeles on the Fox network, organizers said Tuesday.

Joining ABC, CBS and NBC, Fox will donate 1 hour of live, commercial-free prime time for the nationally televised fundraiser.

Additionally, VH1, HBO Latino, TV One and G4 have agreed to air the SU2C event. They join HBO, Discovery Health, E!, MLB Network and The Style Network for what is being billed as "an historic evening to raise much-needed money for
groundbreaking cancer research," Stand Up to Cancer organizers said.

ABC renews 'Rookie Blue' for Season 2

Los Angeles -- ABC and Canwest jointly announced the renewal of this summer's hit scripted drama series, "Rookie Blue," which airs on both networks.

The show was picked up for a second season just three weeks following its premiere on ABC.

Sparked by positive viewer response to the series, the second season is currently in development and will move into production in Toronto later this summer, the U.S. network said.

"We're very pleased that the show has connected with viewers, especially considering the challenge of finding an audience in the summer, and are excited to pick it up for a second season," Quinn Taylor, senior vice president of movies, miniseries and acquisitions for the ABC Entertainment Group, said in a statement.

ABC News wins Murrow Award

New York -- The U.S. Radio Television Digital News Association plans to honor ABC News with an Edward R. Murrow Award, the netwrork announced Wednesday.

ABC News won the award for Video Continuing Coverage for its reporting of Iran's election in 2009.

"ABC News correspondent Jim Sciutto traveled to Iran to cover the country's presidential election and the excitement leading up to it. This was an election that was expected to be different; there was an unprecedented level of political participation in Iran, complete with debates, campaign events and voter rallies," the network said in a news release.
