'Mad,' 'Boardwalk' up for Drama WGA Award

Los Angeles -- "Boardwalk Empire," "Breaking Bad," "Dexter," "Friday Night Lights" and "Mad Men" have been nominated for the Writers Guild of America prize for Drama Series.

In the running for the WGA award for Comedy Series are the writing teams behind "30 Rock," "Glee," "Modern Family," "Nurse Jackie" and "The Office."

The nominees for the WGA honor for New Series are the scribes for "Boardwalk Empire," "Justified," "Men of a Certain Age," "Treme" and "The Walking Dead."

Shortlisted for the trophy in the Comedy/Variety Series category are the writers of "Penn & Teller: Bullshit!," "Saturday Night Live," "The Colbert Report" and "The Daily Show."

NBC orders more '30 Rock'

New York -- NBC said Monday it has picked up its U.S. comedy series "30 Rock" for a sixth season to air through 2012.

The announcement was made by Angela Bromstad, president of prime time entertainment at NBC and Universal Media Studios.

"We are happy to confirm the pickup of '30 Rock' for another season," Bromstad said in a statement. "It continues to be a bold, hilarious, sophisticated comedy that has become a classic in its own time."

The pickup comes as "30 Rock" celebrates its 100th episode, to air this season.

The show stars Tina Fey, Alec Baldwin, Tracy Morgan and Jane Krakowski.

Stars line up for '30 Rock' appearances

New York -- Buzz Aldrin, Elizabeth Banks, Jon Hamm, Julianne Moore, Dean Winters and Jason Sudeikis are to guest star on the U.S. sitcom "30 Rock," NBC said.

The celebrities have been booked to appear on episodes of the show to air next month.

Aldrin, Banks, Jan Hooks, Patti Lupone and Elaine Stritch are to appear on the May 6 edition of the series, which is set behind the scenes of a sketch comedy show in New York.

Banks, Hamm, Moore, Sudeikis and Winters, as well as Michael Sheen are to appear on the May 13 installment of "30 Rock," while Banks, Sudeikis, Moore, Sheen, Matt Damon and Will Forte are to be the guest stars on the May 20 episode, NBC said.

'30 Rock' wins Emmy for best comedy

Los Angeles, Sept. 20 -- "30 Rock" won the Emmy Award for outstanding comedy series in Los Angeles Sunday.
The show's leading man, Alec Baldwin, picked up the prize for best actor in a comedy series.

"I'll be honest, I'd trade this to look like him," Baldwin joked, referring to presenter Rob Lowe. "I really would, actually. ... I want to say thank you to everybody from the Academy who is responsible for this and congratulations to all the other nominees."

The actor went on to thank his "30 Rock" co-star, writer and producer Tina Fey, as well as what he called "the best cast and crew."

He dedicated his award to Lorne Michaels, a "30 Rock" producer who is also the head of "Saturday Night Live," a sketch comedy show for which Baldwin has appeared as guest host 14 times.

'30 Rock' leads with 22 Emmy nods

Los Angeles -- The sit-com "30 Rock" earned 22 nods when Emmy Award nominations were announced in Los Angeles Thursday.

The series will compete with "Entourage," "Family Guy," "Flight of the Conchords," "How I Met Your Mother,"

"The Office" and "Weeds" for the prize for outstanding comedy series.
Nominated in the drama series category are "Big Love," "Breaking Bad," "Damages," "Dexter," "House," "Lost" and "Mad Men."

While "30 Rock" earned a record number of nominations for a comedy show, HBO garnered the most nods -- 99 -- of any TV channel for a ninth year in a row, Variety.com said. The premium cable network also racked up its most nominations since 2004.

Alec Baldwin eyeing Ohio governorship

Cincinnati -- U.S. actor Alec Baldwin says he has been approached about a possible bid for the governor's mansion in Ohio.

The "30 Rock" actor said in a Playboy interview he had been contacted by a law firm that urged him to relocate to Ohio in preparation for running as the next governor of the state, The Cincinnati Enquirer reported Thursday.
