Photon 4G is the latest smartphone from Sprint, with the Motorola touch.
From looks to features, Motorola’s Photon 4G is a futuristic smartphone that boasts of both entertainment and business features.
Look and Feel
One look at the Photon 4G is bound to have you hooked. The design of the phone is prominently unconventional, with a slightly octagonal shape.
Unlike its competitors in this price range, Photon 4G is solidly constructed, with no flimsiness or any plastic-like feel. The phone sports a rubberized back which should help in gripping, and weighs just 5.57 ounces.
Something that you will quickly note is the presence of an intriguing backstand. This little backstand lets you use the smartphone as an alarm clock.
The moment you stand the phone on its back-stand, the phone changes its display to something like a digital alarm clock. Pretty neat.
The display is qHD (Quarter High Definition) at 4.3 inches, with great clarity and the right amount of brightness.
User Interface and Camera
Photon 4G is powered by the Gingerbread version of Android, version 2.3. Apart from this, it has the unique MotoBlur sevice which helps you connect with your friends with social networking widgets.
Social networking aside, it also comes with Motorola’s latest music app, where you can listen to hundreds of internet radio stations and podcasts, or buy music directly from Amazon MP3.
A 8-megapixel camera on the back of the phone is powerful enough for most everyday occasions, and takes photos which are clear and sharp, and videos in 720p.
We did notice a slight tint of blue in some of the pictures though. Besides this, there is a front-facing camera for video calls.
Though multimedia features are a forte of the Photon, it does not compromise on business features. Business executives will particularly appreciate the presence of Exchange support and enterprise security.
3LM’s Ready for Business software also comes preloaded, should you need it. But what makes the Photon really convenient for business users is that it is a world GSM/CDMA phone.
Inside Photon
Photon 4G runs on the Nvidia Tegra 2 processor, with 1 GB of RAM and 16GB of on-board storage. Given such impressive specs, we were not surprised to see that applications opened almost instantly and scrolling through menus was a breeze.
Motorola’s Photon 4G is available for $200 with a two-year service contract from Sprint.
