This is great news for the game fanatics, but there's a catch: the users need to buy a brand new copy of “Mass Effect 2” when it will hit the store shelves on Jan. 26.
This is because the new feature can only be activated via an unlock code that is packed within the new copy of the game.
Anyone who picks up a used copy will have to pay a one-time fee that is not yet disclosed by EA.
According to Dr. Ray Muzyka, co-founder of BioWare and group general manager of the RPG/MMO Group of EA, “The Cerberus Network augments and extends the rich universe of Mass Effect 2. We’re thrilled to be able to reward loyal BioWare and Mass Effect fans with ongoing, high quality content and provide a direct channel for our players to dive deeper into the intriguing lore of Mass Effect.”
The new add-ons to make game play even more exciting
EA said in a statement: "Players who access ‘The Cerberus Network’ will receive the first DLC pack on Jan. 26 (launch day in North America) featuring new missions and in-game items. Included in this pack is a mission that introduces Zaeed, a rugged and deadly gun-for-hire who is recruited to join Commander Shepard’s mission to save mankind."
There is also lot of other content planned for the release after first installment including new missions, a hovering tank named the Hammerhead, the Cerberus Assault Armor and the M-22 Eviscerator Shotgun; all these and more, week after week and free of cost.
But all the downloadable content is bound to users’ EA account, which is non-transferable.
Gamers react online to Bioware’s announcement
An online reader TheCoalman987 wrote on 1up.com, “They're a business and they need to make money too, especially with the condition EA is in now.
“Mass Effect 2 is sure to be a fantastic game and for me it just seems wrong to undermine the earnings of a company like Bioware by saving a couple bucks on a used copy of a game. Maybe I just don't care because I'm buying my copy day one...”
Another reader Pete5506 posted on gamespot.com, “Sweet, I can’t wait to get this game.”
