Ubisoft's “Splinter Cell Conviction” delayed

Game publisher Ubisoft on Wednesday announced that its much awaited game “Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Conviction” will be delayed again, this time till April.

“Splinter Cell Conviction” was slated for Feb. 23 release, but the game publisher kept delaying it since its announcement in 2007. Another real-time strategy game R.U.S.E that was scheduled to be released in the first quarter of 2010 was also postponed.

“Splinter Cell Conviction” was slated for Feb. 23 release, but the game publisher kept delaying it since its announcement in 2007. Another real-time strategy game R.U.S.E that was scheduled to be released in the first quarter of 2010 was also postponed.

This delay in the release of Ubisoft’s two highly-anticipated and high-profile games in the current fiscal year has forced the publisher to lower its third-quarter and full-year revenue forecast.

"Despite a number of highly successful titles, such as Assassin's Creed II, which is expected to reach 9 million sell-in units by the end of March 2010 and Just Dance our great Wii success during the holiday season Ubisoft has not met its financial targets,” said Ubisoft CEO, Yves Guillemot, as a part of the announcement declaring the delay of the game.

Ubisoft now expects $718 million in Dec. 31 quarter and $1.25 billion for the year--which is quite low from the previous projections of $783 million and $1.51 billion, respectively.

New games coming in the first quarter of 2010
The announcement about “Splinter Cell Conviction’s” might have soured the moods of game enthusiasts, but there is good news in store for them.

A new installment in the ongoing “Assassin’s Creed” franchise, with online multi-player mode, will be releasing later this year.

Other game installments, such as Driver, Raving Rabbids 4, Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands and Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon series, will be releasing in 2010.

Reaction of game enthusiast to Ubisoft’s announcement
Seems like that the game fanatics are not very pleased with Ubisoft’s announcement about “Splinter Cell” being delayed.

One such irate online reader Alpha_boss on 1up.com posted, “I wasn’t the slightest bit angry about the first delay, but this is starting to suck hard. If delays lead to a better game than this one had better make me shit my pants. Seriously though, I thoroughly expect to defecate.... any way, it looks like 360 isn’t going to start off the year with both ME 2 and SCC being heavy hitters. Thanks Ubi, you fuckers.”

Another reader Tyler Peters on gamasutra.com wrote, “Isn't this something like the fourth or fifth delay for Splinter Cell since is was announced? Sounds like they are having real problems with that one. It's a little surprising to me that they would delay the game only a month from its release date. They couldn't see whatever problems they have coming?”
