The Awakening will be available on platforms like Xbox360, PlayStation 3 and PC for the price tag of $40.
At the same time, the company announced that Bioware’s game “Return to Ostagar” has been delayed indefinitely for some unknown reasons.
BioWare’s Chris Priestly wrote in a statement released on game’s official forums, "We're sorry but the planned Return to Ostagar downloadable content scheduled to launch on January 5th has been delayed for all platforms. We will update you as new information becomes available."
New added features in Dragon Age: Origin- Awakening
Awakening storyline picks up directly after the Original Dragon Age- Origins and will require a copy of original Dragon Age: Origins to play.
Players will be allowed to import their Dragon Age characters or they can simply take up the role of new Grey Warden Commander to fight new monsters in newly created area called Amaranthine. In the game, all new abilities, spells and items have been introduced.
The major development in the storyline is that it focuses on rebuilding Grey Wardens. Developers have added new foes and creatures such as the Inferno Golem, Spectral Dragon and a hyper-intelligent sub-race of Darkspawn in the expansion.
Online readers’ reaction to the announcement made by EA
Online readers are certainly looking forward to Dragon Age: The Awakening, though the game enthusiasts did not seem much thrilled about the price factor.
On xbox360.gamespy.com 2late2dieNow, an online reader wrote, “F****** $40 for an expansion pack! Really?! No I mean, really?! Really EA?!? $40 for an expansion pack?!? Most PC games cost $50, and you're gonna give us not even 3rd of the content we got in main game for more than half the price?! Would you like us to bend over as well?”
Another reader thibbledorfP on GameSpot posted, “I am looking forward to buying this game, $40 is ok if it is a full fledged 20 or so hour expansion with new areas and content, which it seems to be. There are new characters and a new storyline, as well as new areas to explore. I avoided the mini-DLC's Bioware has released for DA, but I am not opposed to a full expansion.”
Awakening will be available both as a boxed retail product and digitally. The game has been rated M for Mature by the Entertainment Software Rating Board in North America and 18+ by PEGI in Europe.
