MW2’s release has beaten almost every record in the entertainment industry whether it’s on box office or book releases.

In just 24 hours time after it was released, 4.7 million copies were sold, breaking almost every previous sales record and making it the most successful gaming launch of all times.

Within five days after the release of the MW2 on Nov. 10, the game sold $550 million copies.

Even after being highly criticized for its graphic nature, critics also appreciated the game, making it the most in-demand game of this year.

Apparently, Activision is not the only one who is riding high on the success of “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2” ever since its release.

An online gaming retailer GameStop sold 2.5 million copies of this hit franchise within barely three days after its release. This rose GameStop’s Q3 sales up to $1.82 billion from $1.7 billion in Q2.

Activation’s shares on the NASDAQ rose by more than 1 percent late in the morning, whereas its competitors’, Electronic Art Inc. (ERTS.O) and Take Two Interactive Software Inc. (TTWO.O), shares fell by more than 2 percent.

With this, Activision has got another trophy to add to its long list of achievements in gaming arena.

Predictions by analysts for coming months
According to an analyst Ben Schachter at Broadpoint AmTech, the downloaded content for the game alone has the capacity to generate up to $140 million for its makers in 2010.

"As with the last two CoD titles, the game itself should maintain its $60 launch price until the next iteration (due in large part to the value of its online gameplay)," Schachter said. "But Activision will also benefit significantly from the high-margin DLC potential enabled by the packaged product's success. We estimate that Activision will generate at least $100mil-$140mil in gross revenue from Call of Duty DLC in 2010."

The Modern Warfare 2 is clearly on record-breaking spree as it has smashed many records till now.
