"Earlier today was our financial analyst meeting and Paul Jacobs briefly demonstrated a prototype design," a Qualcomm spokeswoman said in an email. "At this time, that is all the information that we can share.
Cost and the carrier
Its cost and what it will be named is still unknown.
"Lenovo is developing a smartbook based on Snapdragon, which we expect to announce at CES," a spokeswoman said in an email. "Unfortunately, there are no further details at this point."
This new offering from Lenovo will be sold by AT&T, may be as a part of some subsidized data plan, like others carriers have done.
The AT&T spokesman also confirmed the relationship, but refused to divulge any further information as of now.
"We are working with Lenovo and Qualcomm and believe Lenovo will share more on its device at CES in January," AT&T spokesman said. "Until then, we have no more details to share."
Few reported features
It is reported that this new smartbook will be running a variation of Linux OS (Windows 7 at Netbook) and have an HD-supporting screen.
However, it’s not clear if HD video can actually be played on it. The Lenovo device indeed looks like a much thinner notebook computer.
Qualcomm hopes its Snapdragon chip will fit in multiple products. This chip is already found in smartphones, doesn’t require a cooling fan, and allows for a lower price and longer battery life than netbooks do.
This chip not only has a processor in it but can also connect to the cellular network.
This is not the industry’s first ever smartbook to be offered, however, it will be a new addition from Lenovo’s side to the smartbook stable.
Though other manufacturers have not yet officially announced any of their smartbook products, there are speculations that Asian manufacturers, ranging from Asus to Wistron to Toshiba, will soon be unveiling their prototypes at this year’s Computex show. This show sure is something to keep an eye on if you are a smartbook user.
More details will come at CSE event, which is just two months away.
