"This may be the best iPhone users ever has it," Hotz explained in an official blog post. "Be sure, if you have a 3GS or iPod Touch 3, to use Cydia's 'On File' or Firmware Umbrella in order to be able to restore to 3.1.2 in the future. And as always, the baseband cannot be downgraded, so be *super* careful with updates if you need to unlock."
According to the AppleInsider’s report, Hotz is a teenager who first made headlines two years ago when he successfully unlocked Apple’s original iPhone all by himself.
According to Geohot on his blog:
-BlacksnOw is to unlock for the 05.11.07 baseband and also to enable tethering officially.
- Blackra1n, a jailbreak for 3.1.2, has been reorganized to RC3, with hacktivation support; Tiger+PPC support 15 second speed improvement and installation of the latest version of Blackra1n app.
What does crack do?
The Blackra1n crack installs a new app, called—BlacksnOw, onto an iPhone, a combination jailbreak, and unlock tool. It unlocks your iPhone device, in the process making it usable on any GSM or UTMS carrier network.
The tool offers faster jailbreaking, one-click hacktivation, unlocking and enabling tethering support all in one app.
Users updating to 05.11.07 baseband won’t see anything new on their phone. However, the new baseband once updated, cannot be downgraded to previous version.
The patch reportedly requires a live USB connection (for some models) before any of the hardware reset can be performed.
According to TechTree reports, BlacksnOw unlocks iPhone “faster” than any other crack. And once it is unlocked, the iPhone can be used with any mobile carrier.
Apple’s reaction to this development
Till now nothing has been done from Apple’s side on this issue except the releasing of a statement on the site AppleInsider. But surely enough Apple is boiling with rage over this new development since it had spend a lot of money on the preventive methods to stop hacking, and also on trying to control its users.
Their efforts truly have gone waste in the blink of an eye since there are speculations indicating that the procedure can also allow its users to steal software from the App Store.
Apple insisted that the licensee is not the “owner” of his or her iPhone software, and warned that transforming the OS could result into “serious problems in the operation” of the device.
Anyone who’s thinking about using this latest crack might be violating the terms of service and voiding their warranty by jailbreaking the iPhone.
It could be possible that Apple still emerges victorious from this mess because now there are chances of iPhone sales going up. Users who are still debating whether to buy the device or not due to the restrictions imposed by the Apple and its authorized carriers can now decide on buying the device. In short, Apple might not be affected by the hacking crack.
