Adam Kafka, 24, St. Paul, who was at the Myth for the 19th annual KDWB-FM Star Party event, said McPhee just didn't have what he was looking for.
"She was mediocre at best, considering all the publicity she's had from 'American Idol,'" Kafka said after her performance at the Maplewood night spot Thursday. "She didn't grab the crowd the way I thought she would. And her banter was boring."
He gave her a grade of "C" when asked by a reviewer for the Minneapolis Star Tribune, who pretty much agreed with that assessment.
But it was another matter when it came to Robin Thicke, the son actor Alan Thicke and singer Gloria Loring.
Fan Shari Thomas, 26, of St. Paul described used the words "excellent" and "cute" in her assessment of Thicke's performance.
Thomas and the newspaper critique both gave Thicke high marks.
