Bloomington, Ind. -- NCAA investigators said Indiana men's basketball Coach Kelvin Sampson lied to the school and NCAA about making impermissible recruiting phone calls.

Sampson had limitations placed on his recruiting by telephone in the wake of improper calls made while he was the basketball coach at Oklahoma. The NCAA alleged that Sampson and members of his staff made more than 100 impermissible phone calls.
Investigators said Sampson was included in three-way calls through two assistant coaches.
Sanctions handed down by the NCAA in relation to improper recruiting contacts by Sampson while he was at Oklahoma barred the coach from making phone calls to recruits, or engaging in off-campus recruiting, for one year beginning May 25, 2006.
He took over the Indiana basketball program on March 29, 2006. The Hoosiers were 21-11 under Sampson last year and are 20-3 and ranked 12th in the country this season.
Indiana officials have until May to respond to the NCAA report. A hearing before the NCAA Committee on Infractions was expected June 14 in Seattle. A decision on the allegations is expected in late summer.
