Anonymous Hacked Into CIA’s Website

On Twitter anonymous tweeted "CIA Tango Down".

Hacking group Anonymous has claimed the responsibility of shutting down CIA’s website, as the site remained inaccessible on Friday.

This is not the first time that Hacking groups have attacked investigating agencies websites, couple of weeks ago Anonymous hacked into the conference call between FBI and Scotland Yard.

CIA’s reaction

CIA has not given detailed information about the hacking and it is also not clear whether the hackers also compromised CIA’s actual computer system.

In a statement CIA's spokesperson told that they were aware about the problem and were trying to resolve it.

We are aware of the problems accessing our web site, and are working to resolve them.

Anonymous's Revelation

Soon after shutting down CIA’s website Anonymous posted a message on Twitter which has been used by the group for interaction. They wrote

CIA TANGO DOWN: https://www.cia.gov/ #Anonymous.

Tango Down is a phrase used by US army after eliminating an enemy, now used by Anonymous for CIA.

Last month Anonymous knocked off FBI’s website in protest of shutting down of file sharing site Megaupload.

The Attack

Anonymous usually use ‘denial of service’ attacks for shutting down website temporarily. Under this attack hackers bombard the website with traffic under which numbers of computers are commanded to visit the site simultaneously with the aim of overwhelming its servers.

Due to the visits website server is weighed down and after sometime the site becomes inaccessible.

A Busy Friday for Anonymous

Along with carrying attack on CIA, Anonymous claimed to compromise 730 MB emails of Mexican Mining Chamber, Camimex. In a message Anonymous said they targeted Camimex for allegedly exploiting labor conditions and corrupt business practices.

On Twitter Anonymous tweeted:

✹HACKED✹ 730MB of mailz + db from CAMIMEX: Mexican Chamber of Mines http://pastebin.com/g4rScjT2 | Mail: https://bitly.com/AazT2E #OpMexico #Anonymous

Anonymous also attached the pastebin link with the tweet which exposed emails.

Law enforcement agencies like FBI, CIA and UK law enforcement agencies have always been under Anonymous' attack. Previously, Anonymous targeted police website in Texas, Boston and Salt Lake City.

It also leaked emails from the office of Bashar Assad, Syrian President. The emails included preparatory materials for an interview with Barbara Walters.
