New iPhone is here, it’s not iPhone 5!

The 5-megapixel camera has been upgraded to 8-megapixels, so you can expect greater resolution.

In what appears to be a classic example of an anti-climax, excited consumers who had been waiting for iPhone 5 found that the new iPhone is simply iPhone 4S, which has most of its improvements under the hood.

The internet had been abuzz with rumors that the iPhone event will see the new Apple CEO Tim Cook unveil iPhone 5. Indeed, many believed that an iPhone 5 was just round the corner.

Sorry, no iPhone 5 here
But what we got is iPhone 4S – A new iPhone? Yes. A fifth generation iPhone? Not really. Let us have a look at what the new iPhone brings to the table.

Not surprisingly, iPhone 4S brings no changes in design or looks. This may certainly be dampener for many who had been waiting for a slimmer and sexier iPhone. The new iPhone 4S looks and feels exactly like iPhone 4.

It certainly does not mean that the current iPhone 4 does not look sexy. It is easily one of the best-looking smartphones in the market today, with a premium and classy finish that still attracts customers.

iPhone 4 is also probably the thinnest smartphone ever, but this has been a little controversial, as Samsung claims that it isn’t.

As expected, iPhone 4S comes with the new iOS 5 operating system, with improved capabilities. A pretty good surprise has been the addition of Siri – a voice-recognition feature that allows you to do a number of routine tasks using your voice.

Some upgrades
The changes that Apple has brought about are mostly subtle. The 5-megapixel camera has been upgraded to 8-megapixels, so you can expect greater resolution.

Apart from this, it sports a new and improved low-light sensor that takes much better pictures in low-light conditions. It is called the backside-illuminated (BSI) CMOS sensor, which was first seen in Sony cameras.

The lens of the camera features a wider aperture than what is found in most camera phones today. You can definitely expect a better quality of pictures with iPhone 4S.

Further, 1080p HD video-recording is another new feature that the camera sports. This brings it on par with top Android phones today.

The processor has also been upgraded to Apple A5, the new dual-core chip that we found in iPad 2.

Many users have been left a bit disappointed that the display of the new iPhone hasn’t changed at all.

Though this might seem like a disadvantage, experts believe this is actually a boon. iPhone’s consistent display size ensures that the majority of apps on the App Store work as they should.

According to Apple, iPhone 4S has faster data speeds than iPhone 4. This is perhaps because it supports the new HSPA 14.4 network.
