Chris Brown not to attend Grammys

Chris Brown has three nominations in this year's Grammy Awards, including best R&B album.

Due to scheduling conflicts, Chris Brown will be unable to attend this year’s Grammy Awards, according to the singer’s rep.

Rumors currently doing the rounds suggest that the singer has been to the court to have the restraining order placed by Rihanna on him dissolved so that he may attend the event.

But according to Tammy Brook, a rep for Brown, the court hearing was a part of the ongoing legal proceedings where Brown’s attorney is trying to reduce the "stay away" order against him to a "do not annoy" order.

This would remove the restriction of Brown having to stay 50 yards away from Rihanna.

Brook stated, "This court date and the lifting of the restraining order is part of the planned ongoing legal proceedings. The date was scheduled months ago. Chris Brown is very thankful for his Grammy nominations, but due to scheduling conflicts, he will not be attending the Grammys."

Brown’s 2009 incident with Rihanna
Chris Brown and Rihanna sparked dating rumors in late 2007 and they confirmed their relationship in 2008.

In February 2009, just before the GRAMMY Awards, Chris and Rihanna got in a fight, allegedly over a text message he'd received from another woman. He reportedly got angry and then assaulted her repeatedly.

The case got handed over to the LAPD. Brown was sentenced to one year of domestic violence counseling and six months of community service, and the judge ordered a five-year restraining order on him to stay away from Rihanna.

Next month marks two years since Chris Brown's assault on Rihanna during that Grammy night.

"This court date and the lifting of the restraining order is part of the planned ongoing legal proceedings. The date was scheduled months ago. Brown completes domestic violence program
The 'Look At Me Now' performer has officially completed 52 weeks of court-ordered domestic violence counseling and 581 hours of community labor.

However, Brown is still trying to put the past behind him and have his life return to normal.

During his visit to the courtroom for a progress report, Brown's lawyer, Mark Geragos, asked the judge to lift the existing order which requires him to stay away from Rihanna while attending a show.

Superior Court Judge Patricia Schnegg, after congratulating Chris Brown for finishing the domestic violence program in ‘fine fashion,’ said she would not be opposed to the order being lowered to a ‘do not annoy’ order after checking with Rihanna’s attorneys.

Brown will, nevertheless, remain on probation for five years and will have to return to court if Rihanna’s legal team decides against modifying the restraining order.

Brown has 3 Grammy nominations
Brown has three nominations this year including best R&B album. His ex girlfriend Rihanna, is up for six Grammys, five of them for ‘Love the Way You Lie,’ the duet with Eminem, which relates to domestic abuse.

Though Brown will not be able to attend the Grammys, he is very thankful for his nominations.
