Reston, Va. -- SLM Corp., better known as Sallie Mae, the largest U.S. college student loan company, appointed Anthony Terracciano as board chairman Monday.

Albert Lord was named vice chairman of the board and continue as chief executive officer, the Reston, Va., company said in a news release. In addition, it named former executive John Remondi vice chairman and chief financial officer.
"In a variety of chief executive and board leadership roles, Mr. Terracciano has a long and successful track record of delivering on his commitments to shareholders," Lord said.
Remondi joined Sallie Mae in 1999 and played a key role in the company's transition from a government-sponsored entity to a private organization.
Remondi's most recently was portfolio manager at Par Capital Management, an investment management company based in Boston.
